Chapter 476 You Are No Longer Like You
Chapter 476 You Are No Longer Like You
The girl in the room was sitting quietly in the dark, letting the sadness of her brother's death consume her.
The knocking on the door seemed tireless. Angie curled up on her once favorite recliner, trying to signal the other party to leave with silent rejection.
"Click."
But the other party obviously did not understand her silent resistance, or rather, he did not care. The door was opened and closed, and Daniel had already walked in.
Hearing the sound, An Qi looked up in a daze, as if she was very confused about the other party's actions. Was her refusal not obvious enough? Why did he have to bother her?
"I didn't allow you to come in." Anqi's voice was terribly hoarse. Unlike the heart-wrenching tears she had cried a few days ago, after Andre's low-key funeral, she seemed to have lost the strength to cry. She just stayed alone in the room day after day, like a wandering soul in a mansion.
"I'm sorry, Angie, but you didn't have lunch, and it's getting dark, and I'm worried about you."
Daniel walked calmly in the room. All the curtains in Angel's room were drawn tightly. It was so dim that he could only see the outline of the recliner. Such dimness made him feel comfortable. He said sorry, but there was no apology on his face for intruding into a lady's room.
The dressing table that was once covered with gorgeous jewelry was now empty. That was because Lady Cecil, out of concern for her daughter and fearing that she would feel sad because of her current appearance, carefully put away all the jewelry and even took away the mirror.
This place looks like a down-and-out house, which really suits its owner. Daniel stopped in the middle of the room and admired it quietly in the dim light.
"I'm not hungry." Daniel saw the shadow on the recliner move, and it seemed to lie flat and look up at the ceiling. "Don't bother me, Daniel. Leave me alone. Please."
——Why should she be sad?
Daniel quietly looked at Angie's silhouette in the darkness. She was such a vain, stupid, and self-righteous girl. Now she had brought trouble to the family again, but she had no shame at all and only felt sorry for herself. The funny thing was that the elders not only did not scold her, but also tried their best to plan her life.
Before hearing his grandfather's words, he might have felt a little guilty facing Angie, but now, he just looked at that thing and a huge hatred surged in his chest.
Could it be true? Grandfather must have said that to calm Lady Cecil down, right? How could such a fool be considered as an heir? Impossible, absolutely impossible.
It was as if two voices were fighting in Daniel's mind. Just as he thought this, another voice sounded immediately -
——What if? Daniel? What if Grandfather is serious? You have worked so hard, do you want to be blocked by such a fool? Daniel's eyes gradually showed murderous intent, and he walked forward uncontrollably, but Angie on the recliner was unaware of it.
——What should I do? How can I make her disappear reasonably without arousing suspicion? Daniel silently tightened his grip on the hilt of the sword...
Suddenly, there were footsteps accompanied by whispers outside the door. It seemed to be the unique sound of maids' soft-soled shoes stepping on the wooden floor. The noise woke Daniel up suddenly, and he regained a bit of reason, and then cold sweat broke out on his back.
No, not now, not here. Daniel stopped.
"I'm really worried about you, Angie." After a long silence in the dim light, Daniel spoke again, his voice becoming softer, "You're no longer like yourself."
However, An Qi still responded to everything with silence.
Daniel moved again, as if he couldn't stand the stuffiness in the room. He walked directly to the windowsill and pulled open the heavy double curtains on his own initiative. The room instantly became bright, but Angel covered her face in pain because she couldn't adapt.
Daniel turned around and saw the scar on Angel's arm that was exposed when she raised her hand. He raised his eyebrows. Was that the scar she got when she was in the temple?
"Pull the curtains." An Qi said in a low voice with her face covered. If someone dared to do things on their own in front of her in the past, she would have jumped up and cursed, but now she obviously didn't have the energy to do so.
Even a small scar like this can't heal itself. Has she almost forgotten that she was once a magician? Daniel moved his eyes away from Angel's scar and couldn't help but move them to her messy short hair.
But what would happen if she returned to Goletia? Would she return to her former domineering self? He was unsure of Catherine's attitude, but Lilith, that Lilith, seemed unwilling to give up Angie either. Damn it!
She couldn't go back. She couldn't become a qualified magician and a capable general under the princess's command as her grandfather had said. The Russell family was a family of knights, so how could it be inherited by a magician? Only he who held a sharp sword was orthodox!
He looked at the scar on Anqi's wrist again, and suddenly got some inspiration...
"Angel."
Angel, who was sitting on the recliner, suddenly felt someone gently holding her wrist. She shook her hand away in reaction and glared over. It was Daniel who came closer silently, knelt on one knee so that his eye contact was level with the recliner.
"When I was in Ozler, I often heard Andre talk about your childhood."
Just this one sentence made Angie's emotions unstable again. Daniel clearly heard her breathing become rapid, as if she was about to cry again. But the good thing was that because of the mention of her deceased brother, Angie now stared at Daniel closely and was finally willing to listen to him.
"Remember when you were ten and you chased the thief who stole your wallet across two blocks? You whipped him on the back with a cane, crying, 'Thieves must be tried.'"
An Qi's lips trembled, "Yes, it was my brother, he taught me..."
"Yes, he told me again and again that Andre has always been proud of you, Angie." Daniel lowered his head, and the gleam in his eyes pierced Angie's red and swollen eyes. "You were so brave before, why are you shrinking now?"
An Qi looked at Daniel in confusion. She had been living in a daze these days and she seemed to understand what Daniel said.
"I really can't bear to see you go on like this." Daniel said with regret, "You said it yourself, the Russell family is a family of knights, and the daughter of a knight's family shouldn't be like this."
Angel was somewhat moved by these words, and waves appeared in her swollen eyes. She saw Daniel lower his head and pondered for a long time, seeming to be very confused about what to say next.
"Listen, Angie, I shouldn't tell you this, but I don't want to lie to you. I overheard some conversations between your grandfather and your mother. They planned to send you away, but I didn't know where they were going to send you. I wanted to listen for a while longer, but I was driven away..."
Daniel spoke half-truths and half-lies, and such lies were the hardest to expose. After Angel was stunned for a moment, a look of horror appeared on her face.
"I don't understand, Daniel, I don't understand..."
An Qi finally struggled to sit up from the recliner.
