Chapter 137 Unfilial Son
Chapter 137 Unfilial Son
Dr. Zhang's deepest concern was touched upon, leaving him no choice but to bring his laptop.
When we arrived at the patient's bedside, the elderly man looked much better than before, and even greeted Dr. Zhang.
"Dr. Zhang, thank you so much."
Dr. Zhang stepped forward, grasped the old man's outstretched hand, his heart filled with mixed emotions, unsure of what to say.
The old man was unaware of what was happening and continued to say to himself, "Please thank Dr. Zhang for me. I never expected his medical skills to be so amazing. Last night was the best sleep I've had in years."
"After waking up today, the pain in my body has been greatly reduced. Dr. Zhang said that as long as I take the medicine on time, the excruciating pain I experienced before will never happen again. You have no idea how important this is to me."
"As long as my body isn't in so much pain and I have the energy to do what I can, then I can go home."
Otherwise, if I'm not home keeping an eye on him, who knows what kind of trouble my unruly son will cause.
The old man's face was full of anticipation and longing for the future, and Dr. Zhang really couldn't bear to shatter his dream.
Yuan Yangyang, however, did not have so many concerns. She directly took the laptop, opened it, and saw the captured surveillance video footage.
"Grandpa, take a look at this first."
As he spoke, he clicked to play the video.
After showing the video, Yuan Yangyang tried to summarize objectively, "To put it bluntly, this constitutes intentional homicide."
"After all, he is a mentally sound adult who knows how serious the consequences would be if he removed all the ingredients from the formula."
"From the very beginning, he never intended to treat your illness; he only wanted to use your death to extort a large sum of money from the traditional Chinese medicine clinic."
"Dr. Zhang is such a good doctor who has cured and saved countless lives. You wouldn't want to see his reputation ruined at such an old age, and that he would be framed by your son, would you?"
The old man couldn't help but shed tears as he watched the video. In the video, his son looked around anxiously, worried that he would be discovered, but from beginning to end, he did not hesitate for a moment when handling the medicinal herbs.
Even though he had been disappointed countless times before, this time, he could no longer make excuses for his son, saying that he had his own difficulties.
He didn't want to play the self-deceiving trick anymore; he was exhausted.
He just didn't understand, "Why did he want me to die so badly, just because of that 800,000 yuan IOU?"
"Not only that, your son also bought you a huge insurance policy. If you die in an accident, he can get a huge sum of money from the insurance, enough for him to gamble ten or eight more times."
Yuan Yangyang shattered the old man's last shred of hope.
Deceiving yourself is useless.
Even if they are soft-hearted and don't tell the old man about it, his son won't change for the better; he'll do even worse things in the future.
What will we do then?
Yuan Yangyang showed the old man the electronic version of the insurance policy that the man in the jacket had found.
Seeing the familiar signature at the end, the old man's last glimmer of hope vanished.
"It's ruined! My son is ruined!"
"My dear wife, I'm so sorry, I've ruined him!"
After a moment of disorientation, the old man burst into heart-wrenching sobs.
The old man punched his chest repeatedly, as if this could relieve the pain, self-blame, regret, and sadness in his heart.
The banging sounds were terrifying.
"Dad, what are you doing? Did they bully you?"
When the family members came in from outside, they were startled by the old man's appearance and immediately stood in front of him, glaring angrily at Yuan Yangyang and the others.
That guardian's demeanor was completely different from the person in the surveillance footage who didn't hesitate at all to take the old man's medicinal herbs.
Looking at his son standing guard in front of him, a glimmer of hope flashed in the old man's eyes, and he asked.
"Did you tamper with the medicine I took?"
The family member stopped in their tracks, then retorted defiantly, "What nonsense are you spouting? You're perfectly fine, aren't you?"
As if realizing something, the family members glared at Yuan Yangyang and the others, questioning, "Are you just spouting nonsense here?"
"Fine, I knew you guys had ulterior motives. You're all hypocrites, pretending to be such great philanthropists."
"Enough!" the old man snapped.
Heartbroken, she said, "I saw the insurance you bought for me. I've supported you for so many years, do you hate me that much? So much that you want me dead?"
The family members turned stiffly, staring in disbelief at the elderly man on the bed, pursing their lips without responding.
The old man closed his eyes and said ruthlessly, "You can't go on like this, or something terrible will happen sooner or later. Go and turn yourself in now and confess your problems. Maybe Comrade Mao will be more lenient with you."
"You want me to go to jail?" The family member was shocked.
“You weren’t going to live long anyway, so what’s wrong with me buying insurance? Rather than you dying a painful death from illness, it’s better to be free sooner and leave me some money with your remaining value.”
"You didn't give me a good life while you were alive, and you don't want me to have a good life even after you're dead, is that it?"
"Do you want to see me chased down and have my legs chopped off because I can't pay off my gambling debts? Have you forgotten your promise to my mother that you would treat me well?!"
The family members roared at the elderly man, their words filled with such cold indifference that no one could bear to listen.
Yuan Yangyang didn't care about anything else. She picked at her ear that had been disturbed by the noise, and without expression, she stepped forward and kicked it.
"You're disturbing me."
The family member opened his mouth to swear, but when he met Yuan Siyu's dangerous gaze, he held his lower back and didn't dare to step forward.
He was muttering to himself, and it was unclear what he was saying.
"I'm doing this for your own good, why can't you understand my good intentions?" the old man said earnestly.
"It's because you have gambling debts that things won't end well if you continue like this. You might as well turn yourself in and save your life."
"If you don't turn yourself in, then I'll have to call the police for you."
The elderly man pulled out his old-fashioned mobile phone from under his pillow, attempting to force his son to give in.
"You old fool, can't you wish me any good things?"
Enraged, the family member stepped forward and slapped the phone away.
The cheap old-fashioned mobile phone immediately broke into pieces.
"Just wait for me."
After saying that, the family members immediately ran away.
Yuan Yangyang was dumbfounded; what was she going to do?
How could they have gotten away like that?
They thought this matter would likely end without a trace, but the old man in bed suddenly made an unexpected request.
"Dr. Zhang, can you do me a favor and call the police for me?"
The old man gave a bitter smile at the shocked looks on the faces of the people above him.
"What I just said was from the bottom of my heart. If he were to associate with those people, he would not have a good end. Going to work as a sewing machine operator might not be a bad way to save his life."
Dr. Zhang silently handed over his phone.
On the way back, Yuan Yangyang was still sulking.
Yuan Yangyang was indignant at the thought of the family member so confidently saying that they would leave him money from the old man's remaining value.
"How can there be such a beast in the world? No, it's worse than a beast."
"And that old man, his son has become an ingrate, I think he's partly to blame too, he spoiled him way too much!"
"The reason I finally called the police was entirely out of concern for his son."
