Tang Yuxin took out her phone and dialed Gu Ning’s number.
Gu Qing had just returned, but he had other matters to attend to. He had been busy for about half a month now.
Who would be calling him? He looked at his phone with surprise. Who thought to call him today? Normally, the person would text instead, not quite fond of verbal conversation.
Was there a rush to eat the tofu from the company across the street that he couldn’t wait for him to return? He could make an exception for Tang Yuxin, but he feared she would refuse.
He put his phone to his ear.
“Hello, the tofu isn’t ready yet.”

“I’m not talking about tofu,” Tang Yuxin didn’t feel like tofu, she didn’t even want to eat tofu skin.
“Uncle Gu, is your older brother Gu Qing?”
Tang Yuxin questioned him while keeping her eyes on the photo on the employee badge, she did see a slight resemblance with Gu Qing. However, compared to Gu Ning, Gu Qing seemed to smile a lot more. Gu Ning was just like a stony rock, this man must be a bit more gentler, like sand.
“Yes,” Gu Ning felt something was off from Tang Yuxin’s tone. As he moved away to a secluded area, his eyebrows furrowed and his dark eyes deepened with anticipation.
“Yes,” Gu Ning repeated, as Tang Yuxin mentioned the place where Gu Qing worked- his law firm.
“Uncle Gu, can you come over now? We are at the General Hospital. Please come as soon as possible,” Tang Yuxin checked her wristwatch. Better sooner than later. A family member’s signature might be necessary soon, and Gu Qing’s injuries are severe, and dangerous.
“I’ll be there soon,” Gu Ning’s face changed dramatically. He left his work untouched and said, “I’ll be there in half an hour at most, wait for me.”
With the call ended, Yuxin returned to the emergency room. It’s good that Gu Ning is in town, not far away.
“What do we do? Doctor Tang is acting crazy,” the nurse on the side was anxious, “She just recovered herself. Her back is still hurting and it’s important for her not to be sitting or standing for lengthy periods. Is she trying to take her own life?”
Gu Ning’s hands clenched tightly, he stepped forward, holding Tang Yuxin from behind.
“Yuxin, stop torturing yourself.”
The person on the hospital bed wasn’t a stranger, but his own brother. His brother, who lay lifeless, drenched in blood, had just recently cheerfully discussed his marriage prospects, dreaming about their father holding a grandchild.
However, not long after, his brother who practically raised him, now lay lifeless. He wasn’t breathing and his heart wasn’t beating.
Gu Ning tightened his grip around Tang Yuxin’s waist, the veins on his fingers swelling.
“Uncle Gu, don’t worry,” Tang Yuxin insisted. She was relentless, “I won’t let you lose someone you love.” She knew the pain of losing a loved one. It was easy for the dead to find peace, but the living would be plagued with pain.
“There’s hope.” she said, her eyes wide, a drop of sweat trickling down, “He’s not dead yet. At the moment his heart stopped, I did manage to preserve some vitality within him. As long as that exists, there’s hope.”
But she couldn’t be sure, because it’s a one in a million chance. Even though she was a doctor and a long-time practitioner of the Chen Family’s Rejuvenation Acupuncture Technique, it only offered a minuscule chance of survival. But she wouldn’t miss even that tiny chance.
There was hope. Yes, there must be hope.
Gu Ning had never given up on life. Being Gu Ning’s older brother, Gu Qing wouldn’t give up easily as well. He must make it. Believing this, she removed the silver needle and pressed her hand against the patient’s chest, applying a heavy hit.
Almost immediately, a gasping sound echoed in the room.
The previously flat EEG line showed a sudden blip, throbbing once again. Coming back to life, as if jolted out of dormancy.
“He’s alive!” A nurse rushed over, continuing other emergency procedures on the patient.
“The blood oxygen saturation is improving. He’s alive! God, he’s alive!”
“Quick, take him to the surgery room,” another doctor reacted, “While his heart has restarted, this does not mean he’s out of danger. His internal organs are hemorrhaging in multiple places and has multiple fractures. Restoring his heartbeat is just the first step, the ensuing recovery is crucial.”
