Chapter 1234 Electrical idea
Chapter 1234 Electrical idea
Cogiar was the name of the Ersatz prisoner leading the pack. He was the one in charge of an army when Michael stormed the Island Prison to rescue the Huntrax, the Heavenly Knight. They'd been here in the Nation of Reborn the longest. Meaning, by all means, they should be the one who were most improved. Him and his team.
However, it was the exact opposite. The Rebornian wardens found it hard to completely get these people to start believing in the ideals of Reborn. They were stubborn and refused to do anything that wasn't in accordance with their wills as Ersatz members.
"What are they making us do, leader?" one of his men asked.
"It doesn't matter," Cogiar said, his eyes furtively glancing over towards the other construction workers laughing while they were on a break. "Just keep your head down, and don't get their attention."
It had been a long time since they were imprisoned. And each day, they prayed that they would be rescued by the Ersatz leaders. By the Grandmaster. However, that day didn't come.
And so, they thought that they'd spend their death in the Parched Lands. But strangely, they weren't killed. They weren't tortured for information. They weren't even interrogated. They were just placed in their own rooms, given every amenity they wanted or needed. They just couldn't escape.
"But… it's amazing what they could do. They were able to build that… nuklear thing… in a matter of days. Even these towers that we built is done in a just half a day."
Even they couldn't help but admit that the Rebornian company was truly a league of its own when it came to technology and innovation. They saw it firsthand in the prison, where lights were bright even at night, and cold still blew when the sun was at its zenith.
"Don't get fooled," said Cogiar. "These are just tricks. They're trying to play into our minds, lowering our guards so that we would betray the Ersatz."
His words were like a splash of cold water on the other Ersatz prisoners. They were starting to enjoy life in Reborn. Sometimes, becoming comfortable, even.
However, this could really just be an illusion placed by their captors. Their wardens. They knew how powerful a Nascent Spirit cultivator was. They could change reality how they see fit. Which meant that the paradise they were in, could mean that it was actually hell. They just didn't know it was.
So, just like how they were taught, they turned numb to anything and everything that the Reborn company tried to teach them.
They were stone-faced. Not letting their lofty ideals get into their heads.
"Just a little bit more," Cogiar said. "If we see a chance, we'll escape. We'll escape and report back to our leaders about everything we saw."
They didn't think that Reborn would be that stupid to let them out of that prison. But they did. And now, they were working kilometers away from civilization, just a few steps away from the wilderness and into freedom.
However, they didn't underestimate Reborn. This too, could be a trap. An obvious crack in their defense that would lead to another trap.
So, they bided their time. They hoped that as they worked on the electrical lines, they would one day find an opportunity to escape.
And so, the days passed. They helped the Rebornian construction workers build those electrical lines cleaving through the wilderness of the Royal Continent.
Eventually, after a week of camping in the wilderness, they finally saw a glimpse of civilization.
Down below the sloping hills, they saw a town. A small one, barely bigger than a village. But it was a civilization, where humans walked and talked and made trade.
They saw carriages and those automobiles running through the roads.
And there, they saw the chance.
"My brothers! That's it," said Cogiar. "That town must have a spy inside. An Ersatz leader we could communicate with."
The Ersatz had planted many spies in almost every human territory. They hoped that this was one of those cases, and finally, they could be rescued.
"Come on, let's get to work!" said the Rebornian engineer.
They worked, erecting the electrical lines both overground and underground.
And a few days later, they finally reached the small town.
The mayor and almost half the inhabitants inside welcomed them with warm applause.
"My Rebornian allies! You're finally here!" said the Mayor.
"Yes. We are sorry for the delay," said the engineer.
"It doesn't matter. But… that electricity. We'll have it by the end of the day, right?" the mayor asked.
And in turn, the engineer nodded. It wasn't long beforee he instructed the construction workers to begin connecting the electrical lines they created all the way to the Nuclear Power Plant, over here, to each individual house.
Cogiar and the Ersatz prisoners were tasked with connecting the lines to some houses. They weren't given the heavy task. They were just told to connect the two lines by plugging it together. Simple.
As they did this job, Cogiar continued his search for the Ersatz spy inside. However, in each house, he couldn't see any of them.
In the end, night came. Thunder rumbled overhead, and the rain quickly came.
Then, hail. Cold, hard rocks pelting down from above them. Immediately, freezing air breezed through the town.
The inhabitants of the town quickly took cover to their houses, hoping for reprieve.
Cogiar couldn't help but sneer at them. Didn't they know that they wouldn't be safe in their houses? Even those hearths and fires wouldn't do anything with this kind of cold.
He'd experienced this before too. In his youth. Seeing the familiar shivering in the family in the house they were working on.
They wouldn't have had to suffer this if they had just allied with the Ersatz. They would have obtained power to make even the cold shiver in fear.
Instead, they allied with Reborn. A weak company.
But just then, lights beamed from the ceiling. One of the lightbulbs that the construction workers placed earlier.
And then, heat. Warm, comfortable heat.
The family inside immediately burst with joy.
"Thank you! Thank you! Now we don't have to worry about the winter!"
It was a little girl, hugging his knees in thanks. And Cogiar, unbeknownst to him, let a single tear flow down his face.
