Chapter 219: Jason Fights Back!

Chapter 219: Jason Fights Back!

Jason was glad that he found himself here but he also dreaded what was coming.

The person with him seemed calm considering the threat that awaited but Jason knew that he could bring this under control.

"There is an escape in the back, you should be able to head out. I will stall them," The person said and Jason could tell that they had some run-in with the others.

"There will be no need for that," Jason muttered under his breath and the person was surprised by the look in his eyes.

It didn’t show fear, it didn’t show defeat but it showed a strength that this person hadn’t seen in a long time.

Jason began to walk out of the cave and the person followed behind him to confront the threat.

Jason knew he couldn’t flee, not without abandoning Dimitris so this was the only way for him to survive this problem of theirs and that was to fight.

The person was more curious to see how far Jason was willing to go for this person.

Jason stepped out of the cave and noticed that the zombies had been slaughtered already, this included the zombie that nearly claimed his life.

This showed him right off the bat how strong these people were and Jason knew he had a challenge on his hand but he also knew he wasn’t about to fight alone because the person beside him was also going to offer their help to resist the enemies.

However, these people had a plan of their own and Jason caught a glimpse of a person on the floor.

Jaosn’s face contorted the moment he realized who that was, it was Glenn.

Jason wanted to take a step forward but the person that had come out with him held him back.

Jason looked at the ground right in front of him and realized that it had been tampered with.

He didn’t know what but something might have been planted beneath it.

"Don’t... Study your environment before you do anything rash," the person advised Jason.

Jason couldn’t believe that they had gotten Glenn but it made him question what happened to Carl.

The possibility that Carl suffered a worse fate was enough to get his blood boiling.

"That was bait, if they wanted your friend dead, they wouldn’t have killed my zombies," The person he was with made a good point.

Jason knew that he couldn’t manage the situation if his emotions were all over the place.

But he was worried about Glenn, he wanted to know the extent of his injuries.

A person soon came out and Jason braced himself for the battle that was about to occur.

It was the same person that confronted Glenn and Carl, but once again, he was alone.

Jason wasn’t going to be fooled by this because he could sense the other three around them.

They had strategically closed off all his escape routes but this made this easier.

"Well, hello there..." The enemy said; the fact that they hadn’t killed Glenn, even though Glenn was barely clinging to life.

This was a relief because as long as he was breathing, there was hope for him to get through this.

"What do you want?" Jason was composed, activating both of his passive skills to aid him in this conversation.

"That is simple, we want you." The enemy said before looking at the other evolved human with Jason.

"I see that you have met my unruly younger sister, Ana. The fucking brat that refused to evolve with us," The enemy said and Jason couldn’t believe that they were related.

He looked at Ana with suspicion, surprised that he couldn’t discern her gender despite having a full conversation with her but was she an enemy?

Was this all an act and did she lead Jason here so these people could surround him?

There were so many possibilities but Jason knew that he couldn’t trust anyone.

She did tell him to run but this could be a ploy to make him drop his guard.

"You would rather hang out with these undead fucking freaks than your family, huh?" The man barked at her but Ana was unresponsive.

"Freaks? They have acted more like family than any of you ever did," Ana bit back.

Jason could tell that these people had problems with one another and he didn’t want to step in the middle of it.

He would rather play the observatory role but he was also analyzing his environment, making sure that he could find things to use to his advantage.

Jason knew he needed a level head or everyone, including him, would die.

"We will punish you later Ana, right now what we want is him," The man pointed at Jason but he was missing a few fingers and this injury was new.

This was the repercussion of that gunshot, Glenn managed to get one shot off that ultimately blew off some of his fingers.

"Right... Your friend there blew off some of my fingers.." The man said in amazement.

It has been a while since he has met anyone with as much fighting spirit as Glenn.

"Come here... Don’t you want to save him?" The man asked but Jason raised a brow upon hearing this request.

"And what makes you think I care about him?" Jason questioned with a raised brow, Ana told him about what happened to her emotions and Jason hoped that he could use this information to his advantage.

"Go on, kill him. He will be dead soon enough anyway," Jason urged the man on.

The man didn’t expect this response but he wasn’t surprised by it.

"As you wish," The man said, right before pointing his gun in Glenn’s direction but this meant that he had to take his eyes off Jason.

"An opening!" Jason thought to himself right before activating Nexus and using his superhuman speed to close the distance in less than a second.

This was the opening he was banking on but Jason was caught off guard when he realized that the man before him was dual-wielding, a gun pointed right at him.

"You thought that would be enough, didn’t you?" The man muttered with a grin before two shots went off simultaneously.

-

Jason managed to dodge the gunshot by predicting the bullet’s trajectory but he looked over at Glenn with horror because he was certain that Glenn wouldn’t be as fortunate.

"You keep getting in the way, Ana," The man muttered in disappointment, Jason realized that Ana had managed to manipulate one of her zombies to jump in the way of the bullet.

Jason used this break in concentration to complete what he intended, he stomped the ground as hard as he could and a dust screen followed.

This blinded both him and his enemy even though he knew this would be temporary, it would nullify the advantage he had but Jason also noted that he could react to his speed.

This meant that there was nothing special about Nexus or rather, he was yet to unlock the full potential of this skill.

Maybe this was his superpower, becoming a true undead warrior while maintaining everything that made him human.

Jason managed to disarm the man but the man was more than capable of defending himself, even in this state as he managed to almost counteract Jason despite being blind.

Jason could feel that Nexus wasn’t as strong as he remembered, it was like the energy was being absorbed and then he realized that this would make sense.

This was why Chronos was silenced, it was because someone had taken the energy that it needed to function.

Jason had no intentions of fighting fair, he was going to do whatever it took to win.

He kicked him in the nuts but the man didn’t react to the pain and found it comical.

Ana didn’t know what was going on but the dust screen soon subsided to reveal a sight she didn’t think was possible.

Jason had dug his teeth into this man’s jugular like some primal animal and Ana was horrified because she never knew that Jason would be able to handle her brother yet he was doing it by using this barbaric method.

"Huh?" Ana muttered before watching Jason rip her brother’s jugular open and the blood spewed like rain.

Jason smirked, he couldn’t believe how easy it was to kill an evolved but he could also feel something in him change.

Jason yanked his head back and began to laugh like a maniac as he proceeded to stick his hand right through the man to rip out his heart but Jason realized that his heart wasn’t beating.

"Huh?" Jason muttered upon realizing that this man was already dead, his insides were cold and he could feel the rotten flesh wrap around his arm.

"I see, you’re still in transition," The man said but this shouldn’t have been possible considering that his throat had been ripped open.

Jason saw someone that looked completely different emerge from the shadow but he was the one speaking.

"He placed a fragment in a corpse to throw me off?" Jason thought but Jason realized he was in a dire situation because time was running out.

This man was completely different but Jason couldn’t tell if this was another corpse to throw him off or if he was the real deal.

"What the hell is going on?" Jason muttered but the man smiled.

"Ana wasn’t my only sibling. She wasn’t the only one that refused to evolve..." the man said but Jason was getting confused.

"That was my little brother, Gerard, he tried to stop me..." The man said.

"... But I snapped his neck and forced the rock of life down his throat but something happened and he became such a good boy, he did everything I told him and even said everything I said..." The man bragged.

"I could live through him!" The man said with such a proud tone but Jason was worried about what this could mean.

"But Ana was different, she retained her self-awareness and ran but thanks to you, I not only found her but I found you too," The man bragged but Jason didn’t know if he was looking at his original body. Jason was confused, was Ana alive or dead?

Before the body he had in his hand could react, Jason ripped the piece of fragment out of its chest, killing the zombie in the process as it lost its only source of strength before decapitating it. This man was a threat he knew he had to get rid of.

"You forget one thing..." Jason muttered as he had the fragment in hand, opening his mouth before saying.

"You aren’t the only one seeking to evolve," Jason muttered as he swallowed the fragment whole.

[[Consumption complete!]]

[[Fragment 4/4!]]

[[Congratulations! The player has leveled up!]]

"The fun is just beginning," Jason responded with a smirk
