Chapter 42 The Invisible Trust
Chapter 42 The Invisible Trust
Xiao Han handed the bill to Qing Tong: "Take a look at the total price below, then find the accountant to withdraw the silver and send it to her. After receiving the money, have her write a receipt, sign it, and send it to me."
Bronze took it and examined it carefully: "Your Highness, do you need me to check the numbers?"
Xiao Han looked up at him.
Bronze quickly flattered her, saying, "I believe in Miss Dragon."
Seeing that the atmosphere was a bit awkward, Qingyang stepped forward and handed over the bag in his hand: "Your Highness, this is also what Miss Long asked us to give you."
Xiao Han took it and looked at them, seeing their craning necks and curious expressions: "You want to see?"
The three shook their heads vigorously: "No."
"Is there anything else?"
The three men replied, "That's all, we'll take our leave now."
They actually came wanting to take a look, but Xiao Han didn't give them the chance, so they could only leave out of curiosity.
After closing the door, Xiao Han opened the bag and took out the clothes. A note then floated out and fell under the table.
He bent down to pick it up, unfolded it, and saw a note that read, "(If you don't like that I wore this, just throw it away. The cost of the clothes will be deducted from the medicine money.)"
Xiao Han looked at the clothes in his hand and remembered that she was wearing them that day. He had just gotten off the carriage and was walking inside when she came towards him. Her hair was styled in a neat bun, and her black clothes made her skin look as white as snow. The fiery red flower between her eyebrows made her look exceptionally beautiful on her clean face. She was indescribably beautiful, but she looked a little pitiful as she leaned on her cane.
Then, as if possessed, he wanted her to stay. He found a reason—to make medicine—to keep her in the palace.
He didn't even consider whether keeping a woman of unknown origin would pose a threat to him, or whether she was an enemy spy.
He seemed to have never had anyone investigate her, never suspected her, and didn't know where she came from or even her name.
He folded the clothes again, put them back in the bag, and set them aside.
After dinner, Qing Tong took the silver he had obtained from the accountant and went to Qiushui Pavilion.
There were both banknotes and silver. Long Chuqing took them and counted them. "Miss Long, the prince said that after you receive the money, you should write a receipt, sign it, and affix your fingerprint."
As Long Chuqing counted the money, she listened to him. When she heard that a receipt needed to be written, she casually said, "No problem."
Bronze looked completely bewildered: "Miss Dragon, what did you just say?"
Long Chuqing realized her mistake and slipped up again. She paused and said, "That's my hometown dialect. You haven't heard it before. I just blurted it out without thinking. I meant it's okay. I'll write it down in a bit."
She beckoned Ziguang to fetch the brush, ink, paper, and inkstone.
"Oh, so it's a dialect! By the way, Miss Long, I didn't know where you came from, or what your hometown is."
Qing Tong then realized that they seemed to know nothing about her except that her surname was Long. They didn't know anything about her, what her name was, where she came from, whether she was a good person or a bad person, or whether she posed a threat to them.
The prince never asked them to investigate her, and they never paid attention to the issue or suspected her, as if it were perfectly normal for her to stay in the manor.
If it were anyone else, they would have investigated her thoroughly long ago, and they wouldn't have let a stranger stay in the palace so easily.
Looking back now, it seems unbelievable that they believed her unconditionally.
Long Chuqing counted the silver and replied nonchalantly, "You wouldn't believe me even if I told you."
Bronze snapped out of his thoughts, looked at Long Chuqing, and became even more curious upon hearing her words: "You haven't even told me yet! How do you know I won't believe you?"
Long Chuqing put down the silver and looked at him seriously: "I fell from the sky."
That's right, she fell from the sky and broke her leg!
Bronze paused for two seconds: "Girl, you're really joking." Then he gave an awkward laugh.
"Hahaha... I was just kidding! Just trying to lighten the mood!"
Long Chuqing was lost in memories, her face filled with sorrow: "I actually come from a remote mountain village. When I was a child, a plague broke out in the village, and many people died, including my parents."
"Later, a passing itinerant doctor saved me. He took pity on me and let me go with him. He taught me medicine, and we practiced medicine together in the martial arts world."
"Because I've been traveling around the world, my master got old and passed away a couple of years ago. Sigh, it makes me sad to think about it. I didn't even get to properly take care of him before he left like that."
After saying that, she secretly gave herself a thumbs up in her heart, thinking that she was getting better and better at making things up.
Bronze gave a sympathetic look: "Miss Dragon, please accept my condolences."
Long Chuqing felt a little ashamed and gave a slightly guilty dry laugh: "Haha... I made it up." She thought for a moment and continued, "Well, actually I come from a very remote place. You've never been there, and you wouldn't know even if I told you."
Bronze could only look at her speechlessly and helplessly. He had believed everything she said before, and felt sorry for her for nothing.
Ziguang arrived with a brush, ink, paper, and inkstone. "Let's not talk about my business anymore. I'll write you a receipt."
Today I received payment for medicine from the Prince of Qin's residence in taels of silver. I hereby issue this receipt as proof.
Recipient: Long Chuqing - Year - Month - Day
"Here, take it. It's been a pleasure doing business with you." After writing it, she handed it to Qing Tong with a flourish, then took out a silver ingot from her silver pouch and stuffed it into his hand. "Here, this is your errand fee."
Bronze quickly returned it to her, saying, "I can't accept this. I'm only doing this for the prince."
Long Chuqing shoved the money back into his hand, saying, "It's not a lot of money. Once it's yours, it's yours. There's no reason to take it back once it's given away. Don't push it back."
Qing Tong thought to himself, he had just felt a little sorry for her, but seeing how much money she had made in just a few days, he felt more pitiful.
"Then thank you very much, Miss Long."
"Okay, if there's nothing else, go back!"
After Qing Tong left, Long Chuqing took out two silver ingots from her money bag and stuffed them into Zi Guang's hand: "Here, take them." She then called Lin Mama in and gave one of the nannies, "This is your wages."
"Thank you for the gift, Miss," they said without hesitation this time, knowing she would give it to them anyway, so there was no need to be coy.
Qing Tong returned to Qinli Courtyard and handed the receipt to Xiao Han.
After receiving the receipt, Xiao Han looked at the name on it: "Long Chuqing".
He shared the same thoughts as Qing Tong. He had only just learned her name, and he didn't know why he trusted her so much without a trace of doubt.
After Qing Tong left, he chatted with Qing Ying and Qing Yang, "Have you noticed a problem?"
Qingying and Qingyang asked, puzzled, "What's the problem?"
After considering his words for a moment, Qing Tong said, "Well then, let me ask you, have you ever doubted Miss Long?"
The two looked bewildered. Qingying asked, puzzled, "Suspect what? Why would you suspect Miss Long? What happened to her?"
“Look, that’s how it is! You’ve never doubted her, have you? It was only when I was giving her the money just now that she suddenly started speaking her hometown dialect that I realized we don’t know anything about her.”
