Chapter 482 Not the First Scene
Chapter 482 Not the First Scene
"So, what should we do next?" Wang Tian asked naturally.
Bai Mengfei replied without hesitation, "Judging from the wounds on the deceased, I speculate that the murderer was likely in a state of extreme rage when he committed the crime. He didn't kill with a single blow, and the place where the body was found was the second crime scene, not the first. Therefore, you detectives should go and investigate Cai'er's residence."
“You don’t need to tell me that, we’ve already thought of that,” Wang Tian said confidently. “It’s just that Captain Zhao hasn’t approved our operation yet.”
"Why didn't Captain Zhao approve it?" Xiang Yuntian asked, puzzled.
Wang Tian sighed helplessly and then said, "He means that you two can go together when you have time."
"Why do you have to wait for us?" Bai Mengfei put down her chopsticks and asked with a suspicious smile.
Wang Tian lowered her head, remained silent for a while, and said with a hint of resentment, "Because Captain Zhao thinks that you two are more experienced and capable in investigating crime scenes. So this afternoon, he seemed to be thinking of waiting until you were both free before going to investigate the crime scene together."
"Oh, okay, let's go now then." With that, Bai Mengfei put down her chopsticks.
Wang Tian's eyes widened in surprise. "Now? But I haven't finished my meal yet! You're not kidding me, are you?"
"I'm not joking, I'm serious." Xiang Yuntian's lips curled up into a bright smile. "Finish your meal first, we'll wait for you, and then we'll go together."
“But it’s so late at night, there will be a lot of difficulties in investigating the scene, right?” Wang Tian didn’t really want to go now, after all, it was Bai Mengfei who suggested it, and she was still a little resentful of Bai Mengfei.
Bai Mengfei saw through her thoughts, but still tried her best to patiently persuade her: "These things should be done sooner rather than later. Besides, it's rare that we both have time now, so let's go take a look together. As for whether it's appropriate to investigate at night, I don't think there's any problem."
"Okay, then wait for me to finish eating," Wang Tian said.
Bai Mengfei didn't mind waiting, so she patiently waited for Wang Tian to finish her meal until she completely finished eating.
Afterwards, the three of them went to Zhao Fei's office together.
Zhao Fei was intently reading the documents.
Bai Mengfei was a little curious, so she stepped forward and asked, "Captain Zhao, what are you looking at?"
Zhao Fei raised his head, took a deep breath, and said, "What else can we look at? Cases, of course. But not this one, but a premeditated murder case. The murderer failed, and the person has been caught, but there's still a problem."
"What's the difficulty?" Bai Mengfei asked seriously.
Zhao Fei explained, "This suspect absolutely refuses to confess. I'm worried that the evidence we currently have is insufficient to prosecute him."
To help Zhao Fei solve his problem, Xiang Yuntian said, "Captain Zhao, why don't you tell us about this case in detail? We can take a look and maybe we can come up with a good solution or find the key evidence."
Zhao Fei thought the suggestion was good, so he said, "This suspect has recently bought a lot of books. And the victim, the one who came to the police station to accuse him, is his wife."
Upon hearing this, Wang Tian exclaimed in surprise, exclaiming somewhat exaggeratedly, "Husband killing wife? How could such a thing happen?"
“This kind of thing is not uncommon these days,” Bai Mengfei said coldly.
After saying that, seeing that Zhao Fei did not intend to continue, Bai Mengfei urged, "Captain Zhao, please continue."
“We believe his wife’s words; you can tell from her expression that she’s not lying. The evidence she provided is the receipt for her husband’s purchase of suspense books, which we have also examined.”
Zhao Fei nodded and continued, "But this evidence alone is indeed insufficient to prosecute her husband. Her husband is very cunning and has consistently denied the charges, even asking us if buying these books means committing a crime. We didn't know how to answer. Actually, his motive for murder is quite obvious, and there were marks on his wife's neck, but unfortunately, the evidence is still not enough."
Xiang Yuntian smiled slightly and said, "How about this, I'll conduct a live examination on the victim and then issue a report, which should solve the problem."
Zhao Fei was delighted and said, "Okay, then I'll leave this to you!"
After saying that, Zhao Fei remembered that the three of them might have come to the office for other reasons, so he asked, "What brings you three to see me?"
Bai Mengfei responded, as if she had just remembered, and said, "It's like this, Officer Wang said he was going to investigate the home of the deceased Cai'er, and we happen to have some free time now, so we thought we'd go and take a look together."
"I see." Zhao Fei looked thoughtful. "Going is fine, but the live examination is also very important. Someone has to do it, right?"
Xiang Yuntian could tell that Bai Mengfei was very concerned about Cai'er's case and really wanted to solve it, so he volunteered to Zhao Fei: "Captain Zhao, then I'll stay at the police station to do live examinations."
“Okay!” Zhao Fei readily agreed. “Actually, I’ve wanted to arrange it this way for a while, but I was afraid that you two would be like conjoined twins, either staying together or leaving together, and you wouldn’t agree.”
"How could that be? Captain Zhao, you're really joking." Bai Mengfei smiled awkwardly, glancing curiously at Xiang Yuntian a few times as she laughed.
Xiang Yuntian also appeared somewhat shy and timid.
Since Xiang Yuntian was willing to stay, Zhao Fei had no more concerns and took Bai Mengfei, Wang Tian, and several experienced veteran police officers to Cai'er's house to conduct an investigation, as it was very likely the primary crime scene.
After arriving at Cai'er's house by car, Zhao Fei had his colleague use lock-picking skills to open the door, and then everyone went inside.
Upon entering the house, they found that the room was quite tidy.
One detective remarked, "I never expected that a woman like her could be so meticulous and keep her home so clean."
Another detective chimed in, "That's right, after all, this is where she does business, so of course it needs to be kept clean."
Upon hearing this, Zhao Fei said, "Alright, stop chatting and quickly check if there's anything suspicious here."
Bai Mengfei frowned, staring at the floor, and said, "No need to look anymore, this is the primary crime scene."
