Chapter 137: Deal
Chapter 137: Deal
Chapter 137: The Deal is Made
When Grandma Mei saw her like this, she felt sorry for her and hurriedly cooked some porridge for her and placed it in front of her.
After washing up this morning, my face wasn't so oily anymore. I read all night, and now I feel like my hands and feet have no strength left.
Ji Meiqing tidied herself up and began to drink her porridge. Her eyes, however, couldn't help but drift towards Ji Tianci's room, the door tightly shut, and she wondered when they would emerge.
The thought of myself having insomnia while the person next door is sleeping soundly makes me feel a little uncomfortable.
"After eating this porridge and resting for a while, you should feel better."
"Oh." She took two more sips of porridge.
Grandma Mei turned and walked towards that direction, muttering to herself. Though her voice was soft, it was still audible to others. "Why aren't they up yet? I have to go and wake them up."
"Lu Yu, Tianci, get up and eat!"
She called out twice before there was any response from inside. Ji Meiqing quickened her eating pace, finishing her food before they came out. She put down her chopsticks and said, "I'm going upstairs." Then she went back to her room to tidy up before leaving.
When the two of them came out, Granny Mei said anxiously, "Why are you so late!"
"What's wrong, Mother-in-law?" Ji Tianci asked, puzzled. Why was she in such a hurry? Had something serious happened?
Granny Mei gave Lu Yu a reproachful look and said, "You two are so kind. Madam had a sleepless night, and now you're rushing off to the restaurant. You don't care about your health at all."
"Sister isn't asleep?" Ji Tianci wasn't surprised. "It's alright, she'll definitely sleep well when she gets back tonight. Maybe she's catching up on sleep at the restaurant right now!"
"What do you know, little kid? Go wash up and eat." Grandma Mei patted him and pushed him aside, then looked at Lu Yu: "What did you do to make her so angry? Why is she so upset?"
"It's nothing." He smiled. "I'm going to wash up."
"Sigh..." She looked at Lu Yu's back and wanted to say a few more words, but he was already gone.
Ji Meiqing returned to the restaurant. The manager was still yawning when he had the tables and chairs tidied up. Seeing that she had come so early, he was no longer sleepy.
"Boss, why are you here so early today? Have you had breakfast yet? If not, the steamed buns over there are pretty good, I'll have someone..."
"Shut up," she said coldly. The shopkeeper, not knowing what was wrong with him, quickly shut his mouth. Ji Meiqing, as usual, tidied up the account books on the counter and then carried them upstairs.
"Today, I will not see anyone except Young Master Jiang!" With that, he turned and went back into his room. The innkeeper's eagerness was met with a cold shoulder.
Ji Meiqing spread out the ledger and began calculating the profits of the past few days. At the same time, she spread out the papers and wrote down some things she had learned in her previous life that might be useful here.
She didn't formally study bartending; she just inexplicably submitted her resume to a bartending company while making pharmaceuticals, and then inexplicably became a member of the research lab.
Now that I'm picking up my things again, I feel a bit rusty, but thankfully, it's not too late.
She had been writing and drawing on the paper for a long time, and her head was starting to feel a bit numb, so she lay down on the tatami mat next to her for a while and fell asleep right away.
Because she was resting with her body curled up, Ji Meiqing's bones were almost falling apart. This movement made her look like a thousand-year-old skeleton emerging from a coffin.
"Boss, Young Master Jiang is here." The shopkeeper called out from outside, and Ji Meiqing went to open the door for him while rubbing her neck.
As soon as the door opened and she saw Lu Yu, she tried to close it without thinking. Lu Yu quickly slipped inside.
"What are you doing?" Her face darkened.
Lu Yu walked straight to the table, looked at the things on it, and then at the creases on the soft couch. "Did I disturb your rest?"
"You already know, why are you asking? What's the matter?" She sat down, wanting to have a cup of tea, but found it was cold, and since she couldn't spit it out, she just swallowed it.
The cool water did make her feel much better. She looked at Lu Yu and asked, "What's wrong? It's not to stop me from reaching an agreement with him, is it?"
"Are you really going to do this? Even if it means breaking your promise?"
The room fell silent. Ji Meiqing nodded. "I just think this is a big deal. If everything is done conventionally, when will we ever be able to grow big and strong? People can only break through their limitations by pushing themselves to the brink. Either they transform from a cocoon into a butterfly, or they enclose their territory and burn to ashes."
"In that case, do it this way. Just don't forget anything else." He hesitated for a long time before finally saying this.
Ji Meiqing breathed a sigh of relief, and her complexion improved considerably. "In that case, I'll go and give the order first."
"Hmm." He lowered his brows slightly as the person in front of him tidied up their things and left. Sitting in the room, he still didn't quite agree with Ji Meiqing's idea.
Following the address given by Jiang Ziyi, she found the inn, asked the innkeeper for directions, and then went upstairs.
"Young Master Jiang, it's me, Ji Qing." She knocked on the door, and there was a sound from inside. After a while, the door opened.
Upon seeing Ji Meiqing, Jiang Ziyi smiled and said, "Madam, it's early. This way, please."
The two entered the room, he and she poured tea for each other, and then they faced each other.
"Madam's husband...hasn't he come?"
He asked hesitantly.
Ji Meiqing said, "He has other matters to attend to, so I will take care of this."
She adjusted her posture, then looked at him calmly and said seriously, "I have discussed it with my husband, and we have agreed to take this order. However, we will pay on delivery."
“Sure, but only half for now.” He readily agreed. “It’s not that we don’t trust your skills, but it’s always good to be cautious when it comes to business. If sales are good, we will consider increasing the production requirements on top of the original amount.”
Seeing Ji Meiqing's troubled expression, he immediately changed his tune, "We will discuss with you to see what amount is truly appropriate."
"Okay." Seeing that there were no problems, Ji Meiqing readily agreed.
After the business was concluded, Jiang Ziyi spoke up again: "I wonder if Madam would do me the honor of having a meal with me?"
"Okay." She didn't refuse, and the two went downstairs together.
Walking down the street, Jiang Ziyi spoke up again: "I heard there's a pretty good chef here recently, shall we go check it out?"
"Which one?" she asked, looking up.
"Let's go to Zhanjianglou. Their food is pretty good."
Ji Meiqing wanted to refuse, as Zhanjiang Tower was one of the Ji family's properties, and she felt somewhat uncomfortable going there this time.
"How about we go somewhere else? This place is a bit pricey."
