Chapter 163 Strange Yet Familiar
Chapter 163 Strange Yet Familiar
What? Something is sealed up there?
Jiang Yu was somewhat horrified, her mind filled with the rumors she had heard before that a bullet hitting between the eyebrows could kill instantly, and she felt a pain starting to throb from her forehead and her entire head.
"Hmm, then let me check you out." Triton stretched out his dark hand, about to touch Jiang Yu's forehead, when Morinbia said nervously, "You haven't used a spell for thousands of years, are you sure you can do it? Don't hurt her!"
“If you just shut your stinking mouth, I guarantee she’ll be fine,” Triton said with a sour face, though no one could see him.
"Stop talking nonsense! If you hurt her, I'll smash this broken mirror of yours!" Morinbia's tentacles were about to rise again.
"Tch." Triton gave a light, ambiguous rebuke.
Jiang Yu watched as the dark finger touched her, but felt nothing. "Huh?" She heard Triton utter a soft sound of doubt, and then felt a sudden coolness on her forehead.
Suddenly, a bright light appeared on Jiang Yu's forehead. Triton immediately stepped back, and a phantom appeared in the void above the sea, blocking Jiang Yu's way.
It was the silhouette of a man with long, silvery-white hair. Although only his upper body was visible, he was slender and possessed an extraordinary air. His face was cold and aloof, and he rarely smiled. His icy blue eyes were filled with frost.
Jiang Yu stared blankly at the figure that had appeared between her forehead. She had never seen it before, yet she felt a strange sense of familiarity and closeness. It was as if she completely trusted him; from the moment he appeared, Jiang Yu knew that he was there to protect her.
Morinbia was stunned. Who was this? Was he a family member of the little girl? Was he the one who sacrificed himself to bring the little girl back to life?
Molinbia remembered that a total of two people had sacrificed themselves for Jiang Yu. One was the boy who had come to the Forbidden Sea and was released by it. He was also the only person in thousands of years who quickly and voluntarily fulfilled the contract.
The second one is the person who sacrificed himself to save the little girl's life when she was almost drowning. It seems that this silver-haired man in front of us is the one who saved her life.
"The younger generation is truly formidable!" Triton exclaimed. Two phantom figures, one black and one white, faced each other. Although Triton had been gone for a thousand years, he had been nourished by divine gifts, making his remnant soul much more agile and lifelike.
The shadow of Fan Qingyin, which was radiating a soft light, was merely the instinct left over from the sacrificial power to protect Jiang Yu. Therefore, he stood silently but firmly in front of Jiang Yu, without uttering a word or showing any expression.
"It seems this is the source of the divine power within you," Triton said. "It must have been transferred to you through some kind of magic array to protect you. Who is it?"
Jiang Yu shook her head, indicating that she didn't recognize the figure either, but she firmly memorized the face of the phantom.
“This is very strange,” Triton smiled. “No one would sacrifice so much to set up such a magic circle for strangers. It seems…” He hesitated, “It seems to be…”
“It’s a sacrificial array,” Morinbia interjected.
"Hmm, if that's really the case," Triton looked at Jiang Yu, "he might have traded his own life for yours—and you don't even know him?"
How could this be? Jiang Yu was shocked. She had always thought that she had been swept to the bottom of the sea by the whirlpool and that the power of time travel had brought her here. Could it be that she had already died once and that the silver-haired man in front of her had saved her?
Jiang Yu stood up from the ground, dragged the bubble around to the front of the illusory figure, raised her head, and carefully examined it.
The illusory figure, which had been stiff and expressionless just moments before, suddenly seemed to sense Jiang Yu's gaze. It slowly lowered its eyes and met Jiang Yu's eyes.
In an instant, his eyes, which had been frozen solid, seemed to melt, overflowing with tenderness, and even his expression softened considerably. He slowly raised his hand, wanting to touch Jiang Yu, but was stopped by the giant bubble.
As if guided by a ghost, Jiang Yu also raised her hand and touched the illusory hand through the bubbles. It felt like she had done this a thousand times before, like this intimacy between them was the most natural thing in the world. She seemed to vaguely hear someone whispering in her ear: "Xiao Yu..."
The voice was tender and warm, full of love.
The voice didn't belong to her modern boyfriend; instead, it perfectly matched the silver-haired man in front of her.
"Who exactly are you..." Jiang Yu murmured.
Molymbia, standing nearby, was a little annoyed. This was her little man, and this damned man was too much of an eyesore. The intimate atmosphere between them really made her uncomfortable.
It spit out a string of bubbles in frustration, and while Triton was watching the show, it stretched out its tentacles and rolled the bubbles that were enveloping Jiang Yu to its side. Then, it flicked its tentacles and scattered the phantom in mid-air.
"No!" Jiang Yu shouted. Seeing the man's phantom image being shattered, she felt a pang of pain in her heart and futilely lunged forward into the bubbles.
“He’s fake, just a shadow.” Morinbia knew she could understand him, so she tried to soften her tone. “Also, my name isn’t Sunflower, it’s Morinbia.”
“…Morynbia?” Jiang Yu was still thinking about those ice-blue but doting eyes, and just repeated the sentence blankly.
"Memory can sometimes lie, but emotions can't." Triton was saying something incomprehensible again.
Molinbia, too lazy to listen to his nonsense, turned to leave, bubble-covered. Triton, seeing the distraught Jiang Yu, thought of his youngest daughter who had given her life for his fantasies, and finally, with good intentions, offered her one last reminder:
"It has been lonely for too long and just wants to leave you at the bottom of the sea."
Jiang Yu raised her head and looked at the dark figure hanging in the sea from afar, a thoughtful look flashing in her eyes.
Molymbia didn't investigate how she got to the central hall. The bloody scene of severed limbs and dismembered bodies in the central hall had long been buried by the passage of time and the erosion of the sea. What remained was just the once magnificent but now dilapidated building itself, which wouldn't frighten her little person at all.
Only Triton's reappearance surprised it.
Molymbia placed Jiang Yu on the altar piled with seaweed, gently stroked her back with her tentacles, and then took out the food she had found for her from the corner of her body and handed it to her.
"You must be starving." Knowing she could understand, Morinbia spoke softly.
Jiang Yu accepted the conch shell and replied, "Thank you. You can call me Jiang Yu."
“That sounds too formal.” Morinbia was quite dissatisfied. He still preferred to call her “Little One,” but if she didn’t like that, “I’ll call you Jiang Jiang.”
"I won't hurt you, Jiang Jiang." All six eyes were fixed on Jiang Yu, their gray pupils clear and sincere.
"You have to believe me."
