Chapter 25
Chapter 25
He clutched his chest, staring blankly at his rapidly beating heart, recalling that fleeting moment of tenderness, a glimmer of light appearing in his eyes.
In his hand was the cup that Nalan Jingwen had given him. The cup was warm to the touch. He gripped it tighter and then touched his cheek. Why did the warm water cool down so quickly?
He sat there, a slight smile playing on his lips.
Nalan Jingwen swept around the entire courtyard and saw a small vegetable garden in the afternoon, which should be Liu Qishan's special vegetable garden.
There is a small kitchen with a shed on the left side of the yard, equipped with simple kitchen utensils.
There was only a little rice left in the rice jar, enough for today at most, and a few cabbages in the jar next to it.
After turning around, Nalan Jingwen returned to his listless state. Liu Qishan remained in the same position, looking adorably dazed. Nalan Jingwen walked over, pinched Liu Qishan's cheek, and took the now-cold water glass from Liu Qishan's hand.
She chuckled softly, "Time to snap out of it."
Liu Qishan looked up, her eyes were bright and clear, sparkling like stars, and her cheeks were lightly pink.
Nalan Jingwen rubbed his head and said, "You got up early today and traveled for so long. You should rest for a while."
Liu Qishan shook his head, "I'm not tired."
He would go up the mountain alone to collect herbs, sometimes setting off at the crack of dawn and returning under a sky full of stars, and he never felt tired. Plus, he had rested well the day before, so this short distance was nothing.
Seeing that he was unwilling, they did not force him. Liu Qishan had been away for too long, and it was winter, so many herbs in the house had become damp. The two of them moved the damp herbs to the yard to dry, and they were busy for a long time.
Finally, the last rack was finished drying. The sun was at its highest point. The spring sun was not as scorching as the summer sun. Even though it was shining brightly, I only felt a warm and gentle feeling on my body.
"Go and rest, I'll cook."
Liu Qishan frowned and shook his head. "How can I let you cook? I'll do it."
Why can't I do it?
"Women shouldn't go into the kitchen."
Although Liu Qishan was different from other men, some of his ideas were deeply ingrained, such as the belief that women were superior to men.
Although he did not believe that men were inferior to women, he still felt that women should not enter the kitchen.
Nalan Jingwen smiled and gently wiped the dirt off his fair hands with a handkerchief, saying softly, "We are husband and wife, so there is no distinction between us. Whether you cook or I cook, it's the same, understand?"
Liu Qishan disagreed, saying, "It's different."
"What's the difference?"
"Women and men are inherently different. A man will only be willing to cook for a woman when he likes her."
His expression was serious.
Nalan Jingwen reached out and pinched the soft flesh on his cheek. "Women are the same, aren't they?"
“My love for you is not just empty words. What should a woman do? What should a man do? To like someone is to be willing to make sacrifices for them. There is no right or wrong.”
She rarely spoke so bluntly and boldly. Liu Qishan was slightly taken aback, her face flushing slightly, and she said softly, "But we're not husband and wife yet..."
His voice was very soft, but Nalan Jingwen caught it precisely, and she smiled.
"Is Qishan blaming me for not marrying you sooner?"
Originally, he meant to tease Liu Qishan, but unexpectedly, Liu Qishan suddenly said with a serious expression, "Yes."
Nalan Jingwen paused, then heard him continue, "I want to marry you as soon as possible."
He spoke calmly, as if he were talking about something mundane, but Nalan Jingwen could still detect a subtle hint of anticipation and tension in his seemingly ordinary words.
In this era, men wouldn't say such explicit things. If they were to take the initiative, they would be accused of being shameless, cheap, and eager to throw themselves at someone.
Even Liu Qishan was afraid, fearing that Nalan Jingwen would also think he was too worthless, so he used a calm tone to say such things to cover up his nervousness.
Nalan Jingwen lowered his hand from pinching his cheek, and with this action, Liu Qishan's heart leaped into his throat; he could clearly hear his own heart pounding rapidly.
Suddenly, Nalan Jingwen chuckled softly, with a hint of indulgence.
"I was originally planning to bring up marriage after some time, but I was afraid you would be resistant, so I didn't want you to bring it up first."
Liu Qishan's hands, which were hidden by his sleeves and hung at his sides, slowly clenched, his body tense.
Nalan Jing glanced at it, grabbed his hand, pried it open, and rubbed the nail marks.
"In that case, I'll start preparing as soon as possible."
"what to prepare?"
"Naturally, these are things used for the wedding, like red silk, candles, and wedding dresses."
Liu Qishan shook his head, "I don't care about those formalities, I just want to bow to heaven and earth with you."
Nalan Jingwen said seriously, "No, marriage is a major event, how can it be so simple?"
At the very least, a wedding dress must be prepared.
"Are you still worried about the money? Don't worry, I've inquired in the city, and there happens to be an academy that's hiring. I can go and teach there."
With her abilities, she could easily go into business and even expand it to become the richest woman in the country. However, she needs to keep a low profile now. If she goes into business, she will become famous as soon as she makes a little money, and it might reach the ears of some interested people one day. She is unwilling to take that risk.
Being a teacher is perfect; I have plenty of free time, enough money for the two of us to live on, and it's not tiring. Liu Qishan often goes to the city to provide free medical services, which can also help out a bit.
Liu Qishan remained silent.
Nalan Jingwen continued, "Besides, I have enough money in my hands now to live on for a long time, so you don't need to worry about those things."
Where did you get the silver on you?
Nalan Jingwen raised an eyebrow and pulled him into her arms.
"Didn't you guess it?"
Liu Qishan pursed his lips and remained silent once again.
Nalan Jingwen had a very accurate self-assessment. She considered herself to be no good person at all, but a complete egoist. When she killed Wang Hua, she ransacked her and took all the silver notes she had.
She didn't think it was a despicable act. After all, everyone looks out for themselves, and besides, Wang Hua had said he would give her five hundred taels of silver. Regardless of whether the deal was reached or not, since he had said it, he had to give it to her!
What kind of bullshit morality is that? It means nothing in the face of survival and living.
In the end, Nalan Jingwen was the one who cooked. Liu Qishan insisted on helping to start the fire, but he was afraid that Nalan Jingwen would set himself on fire, so he had to pay some attention to him while cooking.
After the meal, Liu Qishan was fiddling with some herbs, and Nalan Jingwen didn't ask. Instead, he studied the vegetable garden behind him.
I plan to go to the city tomorrow to buy supplies and some seeds for various vegetables so I can be self-sufficient.
"Eat this."
Liu Qishan stood in front of her, holding a dark, round pill in his hand.
"What's this?"
"It regulates internal energy."
Nalan Jingwen nodded, took it and swallowed it in one gulp. Then he concentrated his mind to explore his dantian, but it was still empty, as if it was suppressed by that power and could not generate any extra internal energy.
"how do you feel?"
Liu Qishan asked.
Nalan Jing glanced at him, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "Not bad."
The expectation on Liu Qishan's face vanished immediately, and he turned and walked out.
These days he has been thinking about how to help Nalan Jingwen solve this problem. Countless solutions have flashed through his mind, but he can only wait until he gets home.
Having finally returned, he couldn't wait to start trying, even though he knew he would likely fail the first time, he was still inevitably disappointed.
Nalan Jing looked at his thin and frail back without calling out to him.
Whether she possessed internal energy or not was actually completely unimportant to her.
