Chapter 236 Being a Stay-at-Home Dad Isn't Easy
"Hypocritical! Cowardly!" Wei Hao said through gritted teeth. "You clearly hate me, yet you pretend to be a savior. You could have let me die, but you chose to save me. Lin Quan, aren't you tired?"
Lin Quan was silent for a moment, then suddenly sneered: "You're right, I do hate you. But I won't be like you, betraying even my friends for my own benefit."
Wei Hao's eyes darkened, and his voice lowered: "Friends? Ha, Lin Quan, you're too naive. In this world, what true friends are there? Only interests are eternal."
Lin Quan did not respond further and turned to walk out the door.
Just before leaving, he stopped and said without turning his head, "Since you're so eager to die, then you can wait."
Stepping out of the ward, Lin Quan leaned against the wall and took a deep breath. His fists were clenched so tightly that his nails almost dug into his palms.
Wei Hao's words were like a thorn, piercing his heart. Did he hate Wei Hao? Of course he did. But he couldn't be as ruthless and unscrupulous as Wei Hao.
Lin Quan closed his eyes, and memories of the past flooded his mind.
Wei Hao was once his friend; they researched viruses together and dedicated themselves to the medical field. But now, everything has changed.
"Dr. Lin, are you alright?" a nurse asked with concern as she passed by.
Lin Quan snapped out of his daze and forced a smile: "I'm fine, thank you."
He composed himself and strode towards his office. Pushing open the door, he saw Liu Bao and Da Bao sitting on the sofa, heads down, engrossed in their phones.
"Uncle Lin!" Liu Bao looked up and greeted him with a smile.
Lin Quan walked up to them and asked gently, "Are you waiting for the results, or are you planning to go home?"
“We’re going to Daddy’s company,” Da Bao said seriously, putting down his phone. “The other five kids, including Qi Bao, are waiting for us there.”
Liu Bao nodded and added, "Uncle Lin, if the medicine works, you can't tell anyone that we got it."
Lin Quan raised an eyebrow, his gaze sweeping over the two children's faces: "Are you hiding something from me?"
Liu Bao blinked, looking completely innocent: "No, Uncle Lin. We bought this medicine with our own money; it poses no threat to us."
Lin Quan stared at Liu Bao for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed: "You two little guys are frighteningly clever."
He sighed and ruffled Liu Bao's hair. "Alright, I won't ask any more questions. But if anything happens in the future, you must tell me. Don't hide anything from me, okay?"
Da Bao nodded solemnly: "Uncle Lin, we trust you. We came to see you as soon as we got the medicine."
Lin Quan felt a warmth in his heart, picked up his phone and dialed a number: "Xiao Li, go check Wei Hao's physical condition in three hours, and notify me immediately if there are any abnormalities."
After hanging up the phone, Lin Quan looked out the window with a determined look in his eyes.
If the medicine is effective and Wei Hao's condition improves, it means that Tan Zhengchu can also be saved.
By then, he will cure Tan Zhengchu and hand Wei Hao over to the police station, preventing him from continuing his evil deeds.
"Uncle Lin, what are you thinking about?" Liu Bao's voice interrupted his thoughts.
Lin Quan snapped out of his reverie and smiled, "It's nothing. Let's go quickly, don't keep the other children waiting."
Liu Bao and Da Bao stood up and walked towards the door.
Before leaving, Liu Bao glanced back at Lin Quan, a sly look in her eyes: "Uncle Lin, remember our agreement! Don't tell anyone about this."
Lin Quan pushed open the door to the president's office of the Tan Group and immediately saw Tan Zhengchu sitting at his desk, holding documents in his hand and holding the sleeping Qibao in his arms.
The little guy was curled up in Tan Zhengchu's arms, his little face pressed against his chest, sleeping soundly.
"Hey, Mr. Tan, being a stay-at-home dad isn't easy, is it?" Lin Quan teased with a smile, deliberately lowering his voice so as not to wake Qibao.
Tan Zhengchu looked up at him and smiled helplessly: "There's nothing I can do, this little devil refuses to sleep in the bed."
Da Bao and Liu Bao followed Lin Quan in quietly.
Da Bao glanced at Qi Bao and whispered, "Daddy, why don't we put Qi Bao in bed to sleep? Your arms will get tired from holding him like this."
Tan Zhengchu shook his head, looked down at Qibao in his arms, and said gently, "She cried in her dream just now. I can only sleep peacefully when I hold her."
Liu Bao leaned closer, gently touched Qi Bao's hair, and whispered, "Qi Bao has always been like this, sensitive and insecure. She used to need to rest her head on Mommy's pillow to fall asleep at night."
Tan Zhengchu's eyes darkened, as if he had remembered something. He sighed, his tone tinged with heartache: "Xiaoxue raised them all by herself; it must have been really tough."
Lin Quan nodded, his tone becoming serious: "What Xiaoxue went through is truly heartbreaking."
Tan Zhengchu didn't reply, but just looked down at Qibao with a gentle yet firm gaze.
He gently stroked Qibao's hair, silently vowing to love her even more and make up for his shortcomings as a father.
"Daddy..." Qibao suddenly stirred, opened his eyes groggily, saw Tan Zhengchu's face, and giggled, "Have you been holding me the whole time?"
Tan Zhengchu gently tapped her nose and asked with a smile, "Yes, did you sleep well?"
Qibao rubbed his eyes and nodded: "I slept very well, but... I'm hungry."
Tan Zhengchu was amused by her and looked up at Lin Quan and the two children, saying, "Let's go, I'll take you to lunch."
Qibao jumped down from Tan Zhengchu's arms, then suddenly remembered something and asked with bright eyes, "Brother, did you go to find Erbao and the others just now?"
Liu Bao shook his head: "No, we went to find another classmate."
Qibao gave a disappointed "Oh," and pouted, "I haven't seen my kindergarten friends in so long. It's my birthday tomorrow, will they come?"
Tan Zhengchu patted her head and gently comforted her, "Of course you'll come. Daddy has already invited you."
Qibao then smiled happily, grabbed Tan Zhengchu's hand and shook it: "Let's go eat now, I'm so hungry!"
Tan Zhengchu smiled and nodded, closed the documents on the table, and stood up: "Let's go, I'll take you to a restaurant near the company. The environment is very nice, I'm sure you'll like it."
As the group walked out of the office, Lin Quan followed behind, watching Tan Zhengchu interact with the children, feeling a pang of emotion. He suddenly realized that Tan Zhengchu seemed more down-to-earth than before.
The restaurant is not far from the company; it's just a few minutes' walk away.
They chose a quiet private room. As soon as Qibao entered, he excitedly ran to the window, pointed to the garden outside, and shouted, "Daddy, look, there are so many flowers there!"
