Chapter 42 Club Atmosphere
Chapter 42 Club Atmosphere
When I walked into the classroom early in the morning, it was the first time I had ever seen students so excited and happy in the college.
Normally, their eyes are lifeless, and most of them would walk into the classroom with a coffee in their hand, but today seems to be an exception.
The usual hushed whispers were replaced by enthusiastic discussions, and the classroom was filled with an infectious passion. Clearly, joining the club had piqued the students' curiosity and anticipation.
A group of students gathered around a holographic screen showcasing their clubs, pointing at different icons and discussing their interests.
The classroom was filled with anticipation as students connected over a shared goal, sharing ideas about various clubs. Meanwhile, a holographic clock on the classroom wall indicated that class was about to begin.
What's most eye-catching is that the main characters are already seated in the front row, chatting with each other.
"Which club are you planning to join?" Lucas asked, his gaze shifting between Ethan and Carl.
“I will join the martial arts club and the student council,” Carl replied earnestly.
"What? The student council?" Lucas's eyes widened. That's understandable; joining the student council isn't easy, because the upperclassmen are very selective in choosing new members.
"Yes. They gave me a position on the disciplinary committee."
“To be honest, I can imagine what you’d be like in there,” Lucas replied. “Uh…boring.”
He turned to Ethan and asked, "Ethan, which gang are you planning to join?"
"..."
"Ethan?"
"..."
“Ethan! Can you hear me?” Lucas raised his voice, and Ethan responded with a low groan.
"Ah...sorry, I was just thinking about something. What did you say?" Ethan seemed a little distracted.
He's probably thinking about why I treated him that way yesterday.
I thought to myself, because I noticed Ethan would look at me with a puzzled expression from time to time, trying to figure out what I was doing.
However, seeing Ethan's expression, Lucas immediately smiled. "Oh... looks like our Ethan didn't sleep well last night. Was it because he was thinking about a girl?" He teased, poking Ethan's arm. "If you need advice, 'Grandpa' is here to serve you anytime."
“That’s not it… I just had something on my mind.” Ethan shook his head, responding seriously to Lucas’s teasing.
"Tch...whatever. I asked you which club you're planning to join?" Lucas asked again, pointing to the holographic screen.
I listened intently to their conversation, wanting to know which faction Ethan would join. Since there were no players present, I needed to know his choice.
“Hmm… I plan to join the Long Spear Club and the Adventurers’ Club,” Ethan replied, confirming my suspicions.
"Adventure Club? I want to join that too!" Julia joined the conversation with her usual loud voice and energetic expression.
Following that, Victor and Irina also expressed their desire to join.
Hearing these words, I was basically certain which guild they would join in the game.
"That's good," I thought. "The fewer variables there are, the more efficient my hunt will be."
Just as I was about to turn my attention back to the book, I suddenly felt a gaze fall on me.
"Hmm?" My senses are very sharp. I turned my head to look in the direction of their gaze and found that two girls were staring at me.
But don't get me wrong. They weren't looking at me with friendly eyes. If looks could kill, I'd probably be murdered by now.
“They are Sylvie’s friends…a group of children.”
I didn't pay attention to them and turned my head back.
"Squeak-"
Just then, the classroom door opened, and the always serious woman walked in.
Eleanor White walked into the classroom. Her presence immediately drew everyone's attention, and the students involuntarily sat up straight.
"Good morning, everyone." Her voice echoed in the classroom, her gaze sweeping across the entire room. Her arrival seemed to warm the air.
“It seems you’re all very excited about joining clubs,” she continued, her tone steady. “Today, I’ll provide you with more information about the clubs available within the college and the application process.”
The holographic screen at the front of the classroom lit up, projecting a list of clubs, along with a brief introduction and representative icon for each club.
"From swordsmanship clubs to alchemy clubs, there's a wide range of choices to suit your interests and talents. Whether you prefer combat, magic, exploration, or art, there's a club for you."
Eleanor's gaze fell on the students, her serious expression softening slightly. "Joining a club isn't just about improving your skills. It's an opportunity to cultivate friendships, exchange knowledge, and grow personally. The friendships formed here may stay with you throughout your hunter career. Therefore, as the academy's mentors and administrators, we strongly recommend that you join at least one club."
She paused, allowing her words to resonate, before continuing, "For students interested in joining a club, there will be a club expo today. Each club will showcase their activities, and you will have the opportunity to interact with existing members and learn about their goals."
A holographic schedule appears next to the club list, showing the time and location of the expo.
"During the expo, you can express your interests and sign up for the clubs that interest you most. Please remember that clubs may have limited spaces, so choose carefully."
Eleanor's gaze sharpened, and her voice gained authority. "I expect you to approach this opportunity with the same focus and determination you've shown in your studies and training. Your choice of club is crucial to your development as future hunters."
After speaking, Eleanor stepped back and scanned all the students once more.
“Your college life is shaped by the path you have chosen, students. Now, if you have any questions or concerns, you can come to me after the meeting.” She paused, then continued, “Today’s class is canceled due to club activities, but don’t worry, I will make it up later.”
After saying this, Eleanor left the classroom. As she left, the students whispered among themselves, a sense of anticipation spreading through the room. The once lively classroom was now filled with a focused atmosphere, as the students pondered various clubs and their future paths.
Looking at these students, I decided not to waste my time here.
Although the clubs in the college have their own factions, the club I chose does not belong to any faction. Therefore, I don't need to consider it any further.
Although I've already attracted a lot of attention after saying a few harsh words to Sylvie, it wouldn't hurt to be cautious now.
......
As I walked through the bustling corridor, I could feel the cheerful atmosphere all around me. The college was full of energy, and students were hurrying towards the various club booths that were being set up.
Arriving at the booth of the first destination on my list—the Adventure Club—I saw a group of energetic students gathered around. A senior student greeted me with a friendly smile, his eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.
Judging from his clothing and accessories, it's clear he's someone who likes to show off.
In fact, he was a playboy, and he joined the club in order to travel the world in search of women.
"What a weirdo," I thought to myself.
"Hey, interested in joining our club?" he asked, his tone very enthusiastic and his smile as bright as if he wanted to attract more people to join.
"Yes." I nodded simply.
“That’s great! We are dedicated to exploring the unknown, venturing into uncharted territory, and…” Just as he was about to launch into a long-winded monologue, I handed him my application form, interrupting him.
I'm getting a little annoyed by what I've heard from so many people these days.
“Ah… Morse Scott…” He looked at my application form and read my name. “Welcome to our club. It seems you’re not much of a talker, so I’ll get straight to the point. I’m the president of this club, Jim Indy, it’s nice to meet you.” He extended his hand. I shook it briefly, not wanting to appear too impolite, even though I don’t like physical contact.
"Afterwards, once the club roster is finalized, you will receive a notification through your student watch, which will inform you of our induction session. If you have any questions, please contact me; this is my student ID."
And so, I submitted my first application and then went to the archery club's booth.
The atmosphere here is a little different. The students gathered around the booth seem to be having deep discussions, occasionally glancing at me before returning to their own topics.
In the game, I didn't go the archer route, but from the few words I remember, these people are usually very arrogant.
I walked to the booth and handed my application form to the senior student in charge. However, the welcome I received was far less friendly than before. The senior student quickly glanced at my form, a hint of disdain flashing in his eyes.
"The student ranked last? Are you sure you want to come here?" he said in a dismissive tone.
"Just as I expected," I thought to myself. This was exactly the reaction I had anticipated.
“Yes,” I answered calmly. Despite his forceful tone, I was here because my advisor, who had approved my decision, had called me here.
"Heh... people these days are getting more and more arrogant..." he muttered under his breath, then clicked his tongue in dissatisfaction.
'Whoosh—'
Suddenly, he threw a punch, aiming straight for my face.
However, I simply tilted my head slightly and dodged the punch.
"If I had been a second slower, that punch might have really hurt me."
"Oh? You actually managed to dodge it?" He looked at me, a hint of interest in his eyes. "Alright, newbie, that's your choice. But let me teach you a lesson in reality. In this club, our goal is to become the best archers in the world. So tell me, why would I think someone like you deserves to join our club?"
His words echoed in the air, and everyone around us naturally turned their attention to us.
“You don’t need to know why,” I replied, glancing at the mentor’s name displayed on his name tag.
"Huh? What did you just say?"
“Professor Joey sent me. I’m not here to prove anything to you, and there’s no need for me to.”
"Pfft...you mean Professor Joey recommended you?"
"Yes. You can ask him if you want."
"Hahaha...that's hilarious. That Professor Joey? The one we know?" He turned to the people around him, who all gave him mocking smiles. "That strict man wouldn't recommend anyone."
"Haha... Look at him, he actually wants to use such an excuse."
I ignored their mocking laughter and instead looked directly at the senior in front of me.
“You can ask him yourself later. I’ll leave the application form here.” With that, I turned and left for the last club I was going to join.
