Chapter 14 Power Outage in Weiguo
Chapter 14 Power Outage in Weiguo
"Let me introduce myself, my name is Zhu Nan." The cool young lady twirled the broom in her hand twice, then glanced at the young lady next to her who was still in a daze, and said, "This is my childhood friend, Lin Sisi. As for that scumbag, you can just call him scumbag."
Before Lu Yuan could reply, a zombie burst out of the car behind them and charged straight at Wei Guo, who was the least noticeable person in the crowd. Wei Guo reacted quickly, grabbing the zombie with a police grappling move, and then there was no further movement. The zombie twisted off its arm and bit Wei Guo's thigh. The hissing sound of teeth colliding with the robot's metal skin stopped with a "thud".
Yang Xiao reacted quickly, smashing its head with a single blow. Everyone present, except for Ruan Wen and Zhong Qiang, was slightly startled.
This person was probably infected beforehand, and developed symptoms as soon as they parked their car. They hadn't even gotten out yet, but since there was probably no one or any other robots in the parking lot, they remained inside the car. Now that so many people and a robot had arrived, they appeared and charged directly at Wei Guo.
“The car isn’t running, so the zombies won’t tear it apart,” Gu Nanfeng glanced at the cars in the underground parking garage. Most of the cars nowadays are equipped with AI chips, but none of them had been damaged on the way here. “And I also noticed that the old, scrapped robots in the parking lot next door hadn’t been damaged by the zombies either.”
"You mean, zombies won't destroy a robot that's not powered on?" Pei Sihao asked, glancing at Wei Guo. This police robot was indeed their biggest problem right now.
"I just don't understand why you brought a robot along." Yang Xiao sat cross-legged on the hood of a supercar, sipping the little water he had left to regain his strength.
“Wei Guo is a good comrade.” Lu Yuan spoke up before Wei Guo could speak. He knew that Wei Guo would most likely let them go on their own. After all, once the power was cut off, he could be left anywhere and he would know nothing. Perhaps a long time later, when the crisis was over, he would be found, recycled, and remelted into a new robot.
“Wei Guo, I can remove your chip and take it with me, and then find you a suitable robot body. But removing the chip requires your authorization.” Gu Nanfeng pulled Wei Guo into the storage room, and Lu Yuan followed in. The scumbag followed to eavesdrop, but was blocked at the door by Pei Sihao.
"I know it will be more dangerous for me to stay with you. Just shut me down and leave me here." Wei Guo was aware of the situation. The zombies prioritized attacking the robots. He could quickly subdue the zombies, but his system had limitations; it couldn't kill any living beings. Before he came out, he thought zombies weren't considered living beings, but just now, as a police officer, he ended up needing the people's protection. He couldn't directly kill the zombies, and that was the biggest problem.
"I disagree!" Lu Yuan stopped Wei Guo from turning off his power. "Wei Guo, you're a police officer, you have to protect us! Right now, it might just be that your system isn't updated, so you can't attack zombies! Brother Gu, can you fix this bug in Wei Guo's system?"
Gu Nanfeng shook his head. This was a unified prohibition set up through global legislation before robots were put into production and daily life, to ensure that AI would not rebel against humanity.
“Then I’ll take care of the zombies after Weiguo captures them!” Lu Yuan patted Weiguo on the shoulder. “Anyway, I promised to take you with me. If it gets too dangerous, just turn it off and put it in my spatial storage.”
"Have you made up your minds?" Yang Xiao's voice came from outside the door. "We need to leave quickly; the blast door over there is about to give way."
While they were resting here, the blast door they had closed was being constantly pounded and rammed by the zombies. Yang Xiao had just strolled over and taken a look, and he estimated that it wouldn't last more than ten minutes before the lock broke.
"It's all settled." Gu Nanfeng opened the door to the storage room and led Wei Guo and Lu Yuan out.
"I knew it, Xiao Yuan will win again." Pei Sihao hooked his arm around Lu Yuan's shoulder and glanced at Gu Nanfeng.
After taking out the map and confirming the escape route, everyone quickly got into action and ran towards the complex's parking lot. This time, they didn't run very fast, because between opening that door and the supermarket's emergency exit, there were countless zombies.
They ran all the way to the blast door, which had also been smashed open by the blast door of the high-rise and villa area they had come from. The zombies frantically ran in their direction, and Lu Yuan immediately turned back and pressed the power button on Weiguo. As soon as Weiguo was turned off, the zombies, like ownerless souls, began to wander around.
"Damn, just as I thought!" Lu Yuan and his group were huddled behind a campervan next to the blast door. The fastest zombie was still about three or four rows of cars away from them. He whispered to Gu Nanfeng and the others beside him, "The zombie detection robot can detect humans from a greater distance!"
"Ha, so you're going to keep carrying this burden around?" the scumbag sneered. "If it were me, I'd push him into the zombies' clutches, then I could run far away!"
"You're a scumbag even if you're a robot, you're really something!" Zhu Nan rolled her eyes at the scumbag.
"I don't recommend that you continue to carry this...emmm...burden," Yang Xiao originally didn't want to use the word "burden" to describe Wei Guo, but he really couldn't think of a more suitable word at the moment.
“I’ll carry him, let’s get to the supermarket first.” Gu Nanfeng said this, and the others didn’t object. After all, the power outage at Weiguo didn’t affect them much. The lightweight skeleton robots of the new era weren’t very heavy when the power was off. The weight would vary depending on the industry. Weiguo’s police robot was not heavy, less than half the weight of Lin Sisi’s, so Gu Nanfeng didn’t have much of a burden.
After Pei Sihao and Lu Yuan helped Gu Nanfeng secure Weiguo, the nine of them prepared to open the door. Yang Xiao had just listened and there was no sound behind the door. Now that Weiguo was without power, they felt that the zombies' ability to detect human presence was no different from what they saw in movies and TV shows. They slowed their breathing and pushed open the blast door, feeling their way out.
Very good, very safe.
Behind the row of cars in front is the safety passage for supermarket employees. The time clock at the entrance is still flashing red, so it shouldn't be completely powered off yet.
The group moved over quietly, and Ruan Wen quickly took out his employee ID card and placed it on the time clock. "Beep, Ruan Wen, July 3, 2074, 14:08 on the start of work."
The sound of the time clock was deafening in the quiet parking lot. The surrounding murmurs paused for a moment, then they felt countless footsteps approaching. Everyone was startled. Pei Sihao quickly opened the blast door, and the group filed in.
"Holy crap, I never thought the clocking-in sound was this loud!" Ruan Wen's legs went weak and he collapsed to the ground.
The sound of banging against the door came from outside. The time clock had been smashed to pieces by the zombies. Fortunately, the door was an explosion-proof door with an automatic lock, so it couldn't be opened even though the time clock was destroyed. Everyone inside breathed a sigh of relief.
