The Pretty Wife of General Jinxiu Huanian

Chapter 10 Secret Protection

Chapter 10 Secret Protection

Yunxi's days in that small courtyard seemed peaceful, but she didn't know that there were several pairs of eyes watching her every move in secret all day long.

On this day, Yunxi got up at dawn as usual. She planned to go to the market to buy some daily necessities.

Yunxi was wearing a simple outfit, with her hair tied up in a simple bun. Although she was dressed in a simple way, her face was full of delicate energy, which made people feel comfortable when looking at her.

As soon as Yunxi stepped out of the courtyard, her heart skipped a beat and she felt like something was wrong behind her.

She subconsciously looked back, but saw nothing, yet she felt that someone was following her. Her heart tightened at the thought, and she couldn't help but quicken her pace.

She turned several streets and alleys, and when she reached a corner, she shrank her body, hid there, and looked back secretly.

There were two sturdy men, their gait revealing a sneaky air. Their eyes would glance towards her from time to time.

Yunxi's heart was pounding, and she was extremely panicked. But she bit her lip and told herself, "Don't be afraid, don't be afraid!"

She took a deep breath, pretended to be calm, and continued walking towards the market.

Along the way, Yunxi walked very fast, looking back from time to time, fearing that the two men would catch up with her.

Arriving at the market, Yunxi still felt uneasy. She stood in front of a stall, staring at the cloth, caressing it with her hands, and talking to the stall owner, "How much is this cloth?"

But the corner of his eye was always paying attention to the big tree not far away.

The two men were standing under the big tree, one with his head tilted and the other with his body leaning sideways, pretending nothing had happened.

But his eyes never left Yunxi for a moment.

The market was bustling with people and noisy. Yunxi was selecting fabric at a stall when she caught a glimpse of the two men standing under a nearby tree. They pretended to be nonchalant, but their eyes never left her.

"Who are these two people? Why are they following me?" Yunxi thought to herself.

Yunxi's two curved eyebrows were tightly furrowed, and her bright big eyes were full of confusion and vigilance.

She pursed her lips, walked hurriedly, and her fair face flushed slightly with nervousness.

At this time, a vendor selling candied haws passed by. Yunxi had an idea and bought a string of candied haws, eating while continuing to walk forward.

She bit off a candied haws, and the sweet and sour taste spread in her mouth, but she had no intention of savoring it. She was always thinking about the two sneaky guys behind her.

Yunxi walked through the bustling crowd and entered a narrow alley. The two men followed her into the alley.

The alley was dark and damp, with moss growing on the walls. Yunxi's skirt accidentally brushed against the corner of the wall, picking up some dust, but she didn't bother to brush it off.

Yunxi suddenly stopped and turned to face the two men. She put her hands on her hips, puffed out her chest, and shouted, "Why are you following me?"

The two men looked at each other. One of them was a big, burly man with a face full of flesh. He said in a rough voice, "Girl, we are just following orders."

"On orders? On whose orders?" Yunxi asked, staring at them with eyes like two sharp swords.

The other man was tall and thin, his eyes evasive, and his face looked troubled. "Miss, please don't embarrass us. We are also following orders from above."

Yunxi frowned, her brows twisted into a knot, "If you don't explain clearly, don't blame me for being rude!"

As she spoke, she threw the candied haws in her hand to the ground and clenched her fists.

At this moment, several men in black suddenly appeared at the entrance of the alley. The leader was a burly man with a swift stride. He rushed forward and twisted the arms of the two men who were following him behind his back.

The two men grimaced in pain, but they couldn't break free.

"Miss Yunxi, don't be afraid. We are sent by the prince to protect you." said the leading man in black.

His voice was deep and powerful, revealing a reassuring calmness.

Yunxi finally breathed a sigh of relief, raised her hand and gently patted her chest, saying, "So it's the prince's man."

The man in black bowed and said, "The prince is concerned for your safety and has ordered us to protect you in secret. We don't know the origins of these two men, so we'll interrogate them when we get back."

Yunxi nodded, "Thank you all for your help."

Leaving the alley, Yunxi continued shopping at the market. She looked around as she went, the men in black following closely behind her like a tail she couldn't shake off.

Yunxi kept muttering in her heart: "Hmph, this prince is too cautious." She looked back from time to time, her eyes revealing stubbornness and dissatisfaction.

Back in the courtyard, Yunxi heard a slight noise as soon as she entered the door. Her eyebrows suddenly stood up, and she held the package in her hand tightly with vigilance. She tiptoed and walked cautiously towards the direction of the sound.

A man in black was seen fighting fiercely with a stranger in the yard. The man in black attacked quickly and fiercely, and each move was accompanied by a sharp sound of wind.

The strange man was not to be outdone. He dodged left and right, and when he saw the chance he would punch back.

"Stop!" Yunxi shouted, her voice shaking the leaves in the yard.

When the strange man saw Yunxi coming back, his eyes rolled around and he tried to break free from the man in black and escape, but was kicked to the ground by the man in black.

The black-clad man’s kick was so powerful that the stranger fell flat on his face, covered in dirt.

"Miss Yunxi, this person tried to sneak into the courtyard, but we discovered him." The man in black said, his face expressionless, like a stone statue.

Yunxi walked forward, bent down, and carefully examined the man on the ground. The man had shifty eyes and a treacherous look on his face.

Yunxi glared at him and raised her voice, "Who are you? Why did you sneak into my courtyard?"

The man glared at Yunxi fiercely, his mouth tightly shut, not saying a word. Yunxi was furious. She stamped her feet, pointed at the man's nose and said, "Don't think I can do nothing to you just because you keep silent!"

The man in black grabbed the man's collar without saying a word and dragged him out like a chicken.

The man was still cursing dirty words when the man in black swung his hand and slapped him in the face, making him see stars.

Yunxi sat in the room, holding a teacup in her hand, but she didn't drink a sip for a long time. Her heart was in a mess, full of gratitude.

"The prince is so thoughtful, I, Yunxi, will not let him down." Yunxi swore secretly, with determination in her eyes.

In the next few days, Yunxi discovered that no matter where she went, the prince's men were secretly protecting her.

Once, she went to the street to buy rouge. As soon as she walked into a shop, she saw a familiar figure in the corner.

Yunxi pretended not to notice, picked out a few rouges, paid for them and left. After walking a few steps, she heard someone behind her shout, "Miss Yunxi, take care."

Yunxi looked back and saw that it was a man in black. She smiled and said, "Thank you for your hard work." The man in black scratched his head and said honestly, "You are welcome, young lady. This is what I should do."

One day, Yunxi went to the temple to burn incense. She knelt before the Buddha statue and was praying intently when she suddenly felt someone staring at her.

When she opened her eyes, she saw that it was the prince's men again. Yunxi felt warm in her heart. After burning incense and coming out, she said to the man in black, "Go back and thank the prince for me."

The man in black nodded, turned around and disappeared into the crowd.

Yunxi knew that the prince was truly kind to her, and she was also thinking in her mind how she could do something for the prince.

One day, Yunxi was hanging clothes in the yard when she suddenly heard a noise coming from outside the wall.

She looked over and saw a few thugs arguing with the man in black who was protecting her.

The leading thug wore a tattered hat askew, his shirt open, revealing his dirty chest. His face was covered in flesh and he kept shaking as he yelled, "This is our territory! You're not allowed here!"

It looked like a mad wild dog.

The man in black straightened up, his face expressionless, but his eyes were as cold as ice. He replied, "We have been ordered to protect Miss Yunxi. Who dares to stop us?"

The voice was not loud, but it revealed an unquestionable determination.

When the hooligans heard this, they immediately became furious, waving their fists and cursing: "Hey!

You ignorant bastards, how dare you challenge us!" They bared their teeth and claws, eager to pounce on us immediately.

Yunxi quickly opened the gate, walked up to them quickly, and said, "Don't be impulsive, everyone." She frowned slightly, and there was a hint of anxiety in her eyes.

When the hooligans saw Yunxi, their eyes lit up. One of them, a skinny guy with drool dripping from the corner of his mouth, said with a playful smile: "Oh, this young lady is quite pretty."

As he said this, he wanted to reach out and touch Yunxi's face.

Yunxi's face darkened and she shouted angrily, "Stop talking nonsense!" She stepped back suddenly, her eyes full of disgust.

At this moment, the man in black attacked instantly, his movements as fast as lightning. He raised his leg and kicked the skinny thug far away, followed by a few more punches, making the other thugs scream and wail.

"Get out! If you dare to harass Miss Yunxi again, I will never let you off!" The man in black shouted angrily, and his momentum seemed to be able to shock people.

The ruffians no longer dared to show off their strength. They were so scared that they ran away in a hurry, muttering: "I can't afford to offend you, I can't afford to offend you!"

Yunxi looked at the men in black, his eyes filled with gratitude. He bowed slightly and said, "Thank you very much, everyone."

The man in black clasped his fists and said, "Miss, you are too polite. It is our duty to protect you."

Since then, Yunxi's life has been relatively peaceful. Every time she goes out, she sees the figure of the man in black, and she feels more at ease.

On this day, Yunxi went to the market to buy groceries, and on the way back, she ran into those thugs again. However, this time, they didn't dare to provoke her. They just watched from a distance, their eyes revealing resentment and fear.

Yunxi walked straight ahead without looking around.

As the days passed, Yunxi gradually put aside her worries under the prince's secret protection.

However, what she didn't know was that a bigger conspiracy was quietly brewing in the mansion.
