Chapter 33: Renovating the Marquisate
Chapter 33: Renovating the Marquisate
The next morning, Yunxi got out of bed at daybreak. She was wearing a simple and elegant dress. Although the color was not very bright, the material and workmanship were exquisite.
Yunxi packed up simply and prepared to go with the prince to clean up the marquis' mansion.
After a while, the prince strode into Yunxi's courtyard. He was wearing a dark brocade robe, and the jade belt around his waist gleamed in the sunlight, making him look even more heroic and extraordinary.
"Yunxi, let's start now." The prince spoke in a loud voice.
Yunxi nodded slightly, replied "OK", and quickly followed the prince, walking towards the big kitchen of the Marquis' Mansion.
As soon as I arrived at the kitchen door, I saw a few old women sitting together, chatting and laughing. Their laughter was particularly harsh in the quiet morning.
There were still some untied vegetable leaves scattered on the ground, scattered here and there in a mess.
When the prince saw this, his brows knitted into a knot, his face darkened, and he shouted, "What are you doing?"
This shout frightened the maids so much that they trembled all over and quickly jumped up from their stools. Their faces turned pale, their legs went weak, and they saluted tremblingly, shouting, "Your Majesty, spare me, Your Majesty, spare me."
Yunxi also walked into the kitchen at this time. She looked left and right as she walked. She saw pots and pans scattered everywhere, and the stove was stained with black stains.
Yunxi couldn't help but shook her head and sighed, "Look at this kitchen, it's such a mess, how can we make a decent meal here?"
She pointed at the vegetable leaves on the ground and said, "Clean it up quickly!"
The maids didn't dare to delay and hurriedly bent down to pick up the vegetable leaves on the ground, muttering, "I'll clean it up right away, I'll clean it up right away."
His face was full of fear.
At this time, a cook came over and said with a smile: "Your Majesty, Miss Yun, the ingredients today are not good."
The cook's chubby face was filled with a flattering smile, and his small eyes were rolling around.
The prince glared at him and said, "Not good? Why didn't you say it earlier?" The prince's thick eyebrows were tightly furrowed, and his eyes were full of majesty and dissatisfaction.
Yunxi said, "Go and bring me the account of the purchased ingredients." Yunxi raised his head slightly, with a serious expression, staring straight at the chef.
The cook responded hurriedly, "Yes, yes, I'll go right away." After that, he trotted off to get the accounts. His fat body swayed as he ran, which looked quite funny.
After a while, the cook brought the account book and handed it to Yunxi with both hands. Yunxi took the account book and looked through it carefully. Her brows were furrowed more and more, and her face became more gloomy.
"These accounts are riddled with loopholes. Someone must have embezzled money," Yunxi said. Her voice was quiet, but it carried an undeniable firmness.
The prince shouted angrily, "Investigate! Investigate thoroughly for me!" The prince waved his hand, his chest heaving with anger.
After coming out of the kitchen, Yunxi and the prince went to the warehouse again.
At the door of the storehouse, two servants were dozing against the wall. The prince was furious and kicked them, "You bold servants, how dare you be lazy!"
The two servants were suddenly awakened, jumped up from the ground, and fell to their knees, begging for mercy: "Your Majesty, please spare us, Your Majesty, please spare us!
The little one no longer dares. "
Walking into the warehouse, Yunxi found that many items were placed in a mess, and some precious fabrics even had mold spots.
"This warehouse is so chaotically managed, it's ridiculous!" Yunxi said. As she spoke, she walked forward and picked up a piece of moldy cloth, her face full of regret.
She instructed the maid beside her, "Rearrange the items and register them." The maid quickly replied, "Yes, Miss."
As he said that, he rolled up his sleeves and prepared to work.
Then they came to the garden of the marquis's mansion.
In the garden, the flowers and plants are withered, and the water in the pond is turbid.
Yunxi sighed, "A beautiful garden has become like this."
The garden was overgrown with weeds, growing randomly from the cracks in the stones and between the tiles, in a crooked and disorderly manner.
The flowers were blooming sparsely, drooping listlessly, their petals still caked with dust. The branches and leaves of the trees were growing wildly, some straggling, others dry and broken.
The prince called the garden manager and said, "You have three days to restore the garden to its original state."
The steward was a skinny old man. When he heard the prince's words, his body trembled violently, and the wrinkles on his face became a ball. He hurriedly bowed and kowtowed, his voice trembling: "Prince, I will do my best, I will do my best."
As he spoke, cold sweat broke out on his wrinkled forehead.
The steward responded timidly.
Walking through the garden, Yunxi and the prince heard a quarrel.
Following the sound, I saw several maids arguing fiercely in a small courtyard. Some of them had their hands on their hips, some were pointing at each other, their eyes wide open, their mouths opening and closing, and the quarrel was uncontrollable.
The prince shouted, "Shut up! This is disgraceful!"
The prince's voice was like a thunderclap in a clear sky, which frightened the maids so much that they immediately shut up.
Each one of them looked like an eggplant hit by frost, with its head drooping and its body shivering.
The maids were so frightened that they dared not say a word.
Yunxi asked, "Why are you arguing?"
A maid in green clothes said boldly, "Miss Yun, we are fighting for these new clothes."
While speaking, she kept glancing at the sisters beside her, her face full of dissatisfaction.
Yunxi looked at the prince, "It seems that the rules of the Marquis' Mansion have been completely broken."
The prince had a sullen face, his brows furrowed so tightly that they could kill a fly. He said in a deep voice, "Reformulate the rules of the mansion. If anyone violates them, they will be severely punished!"
As he was speaking, the wife and daughter of the Marquis came over.
The Marquis's wife was wearing an extravagant dress, with many pearls and jade on her head and her face heavily powdered. She smiled apologetically and said, "Your Highness, Yunxi, what's wrong?"
As she spoke, she gently brushed the corner of her clothes with her handkerchief.
The prince snorted coldly: "Look at what kind of situation you have run this mansion!"
The Marquis's wife's face turned pale, her lips trembled a few times, and she said, "Your Highness, please calm down. I will definitely help to deal with it."
The daughter of the Marquis's family was a spoiled and unruly person. She muttered, "This isn't just mother's fault."
She pouted, crossed her arms over her chest, and looked reluctant.
The prince glared at her, "How dare you talk back!"
Yunxi said, "Madam, Miss, the top priority now is to clean up the Marquis' Mansion. I hope everyone will work together."
The wife of the Marquis nodded repeatedly, "Yes, yes, I will listen to the prince and Yunxi." The wife's eyes rolled around, with a flattering smile on the corners of her mouth, and the powder on her face was almost squeezed out of wrinkles.
Afterwards, Yunxi and the prince came to the school in the marquis's mansion.
As soon as I entered the classroom, I saw the teacher leaning on the chair, his head nodding and snoring.
The students were even more unruly. Some were shouting at the top of their lungs, some were rolling on the ground, and their books were scattered all over the room.
The prince was so angry that his face turned red. He stamped his foot and shouted, "Is this the school in the marquis's mansion?" The sound was so loud that the dust on the beams fell down.
The gentleman suddenly woke up and almost fell off his chair. He stood up in a panic, wiped his saliva and bent over to apologize: "Your Highness, please forgive me, Your Highness, please forgive me."
Yunxi frowned and said seriously, "Reselect teachers and teach students strictly."
Throughout the entire day, Yunxi and the prince walked through every corner of the Marquis' Mansion and discovered many problems.
In the evening, Yunxi and the prince sat in the hall, discussing the subsequent remediation plan.
Yunxi said, "Your Highness, I think we need to lay off some redundant servants to save money." The prince stroked his beard and nodded, saying, "Well, you've thought it through."
At this moment, a steward came running in in a panic, panting so hard that he could barely speak clearly: "Your Highness, Miss Yun, something bad has happened. Several laid-off servants are causing trouble at the gate of the mansion."
When the prince heard this, he stood up and threw his sleeves, saying, "Let's go and take a look."
Arriving at the gate, I saw several servants shouting and arguing with their faces red and necks thick. Some had their hands on their hips, while others waved their fists, looking like they were ready to eat someone.
The prince strode forward, his eyes wide with anger, and shouted, "Whoever dares to cause trouble will not be spared!"
The sound was like thunder, and the servants suddenly fell silent as if under a spell. Yunxi stepped forward, his eyes sweeping over the servants, and he said slowly, "The Marquis's Mansion is being renovated for the sake of future peace. If you know what's good for you, leave now."
The servants looked at each other, with their heads hung, not daring to say a word, and finally left in shame.
Yunxi and the prince returned to the hall and continued to discuss the affairs of the Marquis' Mansion until late at night.
