Chapter 163 Stability
Chapter 163 Stability
In the early morning, the sunlight sneaked through the gaps between the leaves in the courtyard of the marquis's mansion, casting patches of mottled light and shadows on the ground.
Yunxi got up from bed early in the morning and washed and dressed up surrounded by maids.
She was wearing a light green long dress with a white ribbon tied around her waist, which made her small figure look even more graceful.
Yunxi opened the door, took small steps, and strolled towards the garden.
Along the way, the maids saw her and hurriedly bowed to greet her, calling out, "Good morning, Madam."
Yunxi smiled and nodded slightly.
When we arrived at the garden, we were amazed to see all kinds of flowers blooming as if they were competing with each other, each one more spectacular than the other.
Yunxi bent down, approached a beautiful peony, put her nose close to it and sniffed it gently. The expression on her face was so beautiful that she was intoxicated.
At that moment, Xiangling came running over like a gust of wind, panting and saying, "Madam, there's an old man outside the Marquis's residence who wants to see you. He says he has something important to tell you."
Yunxi frowned slightly, stared at Xiangling and asked, "Then can you find out what it is?"
Xiangling quickly shook her head and kept saying, "No, no, ma'am, the old man didn't explain anything to me clearly."
Xiangling shook her head, "The old man never said it clearly."
Yunxi thought for a moment and said, "Please invite him to the front hall."
Xiangling received the order and hurriedly led the old man to the front hall of the marquis' mansion.
Yunxi arrived later and saw a ragged old man standing there with an anxious look on his face. His clothes were so patched that the original color could not be seen. His hair was disheveled and the wrinkles on his face were as deep as ravines.
Yunxi asked, "Old man, I wonder why you are looking for me?"
The old man fell to his knees with a thud, muttering, "Madam, please save my granddaughter."
Yunxi quickly asked Xiangling to help the old man up and said anxiously, "Old man, please don't be so anxious. Take your time."
The old man wiped away his tears, which mixed with the dust on his face, leaving black marks. He said in a trembling voice, "My granddaughter has contracted some strange disease. She has a fever all over her body and is unconscious. I have consulted many doctors, but none of them can help her.
I heard that you, the wife of the Marquis, are a skilled doctor, so I came to ask you to save her."
Yunxi nodded and said with a firm look, "Take me to see it."
When the old man heard this, his eyes immediately lit up and he hurried to lead the way.
Along the way, the old man walked hurriedly, and Yunxi also quickened his pace to follow him.
Soon, they arrived at a dilapidated courtyard. The wall of the courtyard was missing several bricks, and the door was crooked.
Inside the house, a little girl was lying on the bed, her face flushed, her lips chapped, her small body wrapped in a tattered quilt, looking heartbreaking.
Yunxi went forward to take a closer look. She gently opened the little girl's eyelids and took a look, then reached out and touched the child's forehead. Then she sat down beside the bed and took the little girl's pulse.
"This child caught a cold, and his condition worsened due to unclean food."
Yunxi said, her brows slightly furrowed, her expression serious.
After saying that, she turned to look at Xiangling and shouted anxiously, "Xiangling, go get my medicine box."
Xiangling responded and ran away.
After a while, Xiangling came back panting with the medicine box in her arms.
Yunxi opened the medicine box, took out the silver needle, held her breath, and carefully gave the little girl acupuncture.
I saw her eyes focused and her hands moving steadily as she inserted the needle one by one.
After the acupuncture, Yunxi didn't even bother to wipe the sweat off her forehead. She reached out and touched the little girl's forehead. Only then did she breathe a sigh of relief and said, "The child's fever has subsided a little."
The old man watched nervously from the side, rubbing his hands constantly. When he heard Yunxi's words, a look of gratitude appeared on his face.
Yunxi wrote another prescription and handed it to the old man, "Follow this prescription and take it on time. The child will get better soon."
The old man thanked her profusely, "Madam, I have no way to repay your kindness."
As he was about to kneel down and kowtow, Yunxi quickly reached out to stop him, saying, "Old man, please stop. The child's recovery is more important than anything else."
The old man straightened up, his eyes full of gratitude, the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes trembling, "Madam, you are really a living Bodhisattva!
If it weren't for you, my granddaughter would have died!"
Yunxi smiled and waved her hand, "I'm just doing my duty. Go back and take good care of your granddaughter. If there's anything wrong, come back to me."
The old man nodded repeatedly and said, "Yes, of course." Then he walked away, looking back every step of the way.
Yunxi looked at the old man's receding back, sighed softly, and then turned and walked towards the Marquis' Mansion.
It was already afternoon when we returned to the Marquis' Mansion.
Yunxi had just sat down when the prince walked in. The prince was wearing a dark purple robe, a jade belt around his waist, and his posture was upright.
He walked quickly to Yunxi and said, "Madam, you have worked hard today."
Yunxi smiled and said, "It's not hard if I can save lives."
As he was speaking, the housekeeper came hurriedly, "Your Majesty, Madam, the imperial court has issued an edict."
Yunxi and the prince looked at each other, both feeling a little confused.
When they arrived at the hall, the eunuch stood in the middle, cleared his throat, unfolded the imperial edict and began to read it.
Yunxi and the prince stood respectfully aside, heads bowed. The eunuch's shrill voice echoed through the hall: "By the Will of Heaven, the Emperor decrees..." After reading the imperial edict, Yunxi and the prince thanked him and accepted it.
After sending the eunuch away, the prince frowned and said, "This reward comes so suddenly. I wonder what the purpose is."
Yunxi pursed her lips, thought for a moment, and said, "No matter what, as long as the Marquis' Mansion acts uprightly, it will not be afraid of any storm."
The prince nodded, "Madam, what you said makes sense."
At night, the marquis's mansion was brightly lit.
Yunxi and the prince sat at the table, discussing the affairs of the Marquisate. On the table were several account books and some documents.
Yunxi picked up a book of accounts, flipped through it, and said, "Although the Marquis's Mansion is safe now, we can't let our guard down.
We need to carefully consider these expenses.” The prince replied, “Don’t worry, Madam. I have already given orders to keep a strict control on them.”
Yunxi added, "And the servants in this mansion must also be properly disciplined and nothing can go wrong."
The prince said, "My lady, you have considered it very carefully. I will ask the housekeeper to make arrangements tomorrow."
Yunxi put down the accounts and looked at the prince, "Prince, I think we should pay more attention to the situation in the court and not let others plot against us."
The prince held Yunxi's hand and said, "With my wife here, I feel at ease."
Yunxi smiled slightly, "I will take it upon myself to share your worries, Your Highness."
The two talked for a while, and Yunxi yawned. The prince said distressedly: "Madam, you are tired. You should rest early."
Yunxi nodded, "Your Majesty, please rest early."
The prince nodded, "Madam, you are absolutely right. I will strengthen the guards in the mansion."
At this time, there was a noise outside.
The prince frowned, his expression showing a hint of displeasure, "Go and see what's going on."
After a while, the guard came running over to report that two servants had started fighting over a trivial matter.
The prince's face instantly darkened, as black as the bottom of a pot, and his eyes widened. "Bring them here!"
The two servants came to the hall trembling and crawling, their calves shaking and they didn't dare to raise their heads.
The prince slammed the table, shaking the teacups on it three times. "How dare you be so presumptuous in the Marquis' Mansion? Each of you will be given twenty lashes of the cane as a warning to others."
After saying this, he folded his hands over his chest and glared at the two servants angrily.
The two servants were so frightened that they dropped to their knees with a thud, kowtowed and begged for mercy, "Your Majesty, please spare my life. We will never do it again."
But the prince was not willing to let him off easily. He waved his hand and signaled the guards to drag him out and execute him.
After dealing with this matter, Yunxi and the prince returned to their room to rest.
The next day, Yunxi was wearing a light blue dress and sitting in the yard, patiently teaching the maids in the mansion how to embroider.
The sunlight shone on her, making her face look even softer. She lowered her head slightly, a faint smile on her lips, and softly explained the needlework to the maids.
Suddenly, a little maidservant's hand trembled and she accidentally pricked her finger. She screamed "Ouch" and blood gushed out.
Yunxi quickly put down her needlework and took the little maid's hand. Her brows were slightly furrowed, and her face was full of concern. "Be careful, don't hurt yourself."
As she spoke, she quickly took out a handkerchief from her bosom and carefully bandaged the little maid.
Just then, Xiangling came trotting in, panting so hard that beads of sweat appeared on her forehead. "Madam, there's a lady outside who claims to be an old acquaintance of yours."
Yunxi stood up puzzled, straightened her clothes, and followed Xiangling to the front hall.
I saw a lady standing there in gorgeous clothes, with a golden hairpin in her hair and a silk dress embroidered with peonies on her body.
Yunxi took a closer look and recognized that it was Madam Li, whom she had met once in the Marquis' Mansion.
When Madam Li saw Yunxi, a smile immediately spread across her face, her eyes almost narrowed into slits, and she came towards her in small steps, "Sister Yunxi, long time no see."
Yunxi smiled back and bowed slightly, "Madam Li, how come you have time to come to the Marquis' Mansion today?"
Madam Li took Yunxi's hand and said, "I heard that my sister is doing well in the Marquis' Mansion, so I came to visit her."
The two sat down and started chatting.
As he was speaking, there was another commotion outside.
Yunxi frowned, "Why is the Marquis' Mansion so uneasy today?" His handsome brows were tightly knitted, revealing a sense of irritability.
Xiangling went out to check and came back to report, "Madam, a horse in the mansion got frightened and almost hurt someone."
Xiangling was breathing heavily as she spoke, with beads of sweat on her forehead.
Yunxi said, "Go and ask someone to calm the horses." As she spoke, she stood up, twisting her handkerchief unconsciously in her hands.
Xiangling quickly responded and ran out again. After a while, the sound of people shouting and horses neighing could be heard outside.
Yunxi couldn't sit still in the house and went to the door to look out. She saw several strong servants, some holding ropes, some holding sticks, surrounding the frightened horse and approaching cautiously.
The horse's eyes were wide open, its hooves were paddling the ground, and white foam was coming out of its mouth.
"Be careful!" Yunxi couldn't help but shout.
The servants took great pains and finally managed to calm the horse down.
Yunxi finally breathed a sigh of relief and went back into the house to sit down.
Peace finally returned to the Marquis' Mansion.
Yunxi and Mrs. Li continued chatting, and before they knew it, it was getting dark.
Madam Li stood up and said goodbye, "Sister Yunxi, I'm sorry to bother you today. I'll visit you another day."
Mrs. Li had an apologetic smile on her face and was straightening her clothes as she spoke.
Yunxi sent Madam Li out of the house and looked at her departing back, feeling filled with emotion.
Although there are occasional minor disturbances in the Marquis' Mansion, it remains as stable as ever under the management of Yunxi and the Prince.
