Chapter 134 Class Reunion
Chapter 134 Class Reunion
In the Stars Hall on the second floor of the Shangri-La Hotel, quite a few students had already arrived, and everyone was exchanging pleasantries. They asked each other which school you got into, which company you did your internship at, and whether you took the postgraduate entrance exam and how it went.
Everyone gathered in small groups. What started as just one class spread the word, eventually turning into a reunion of students from the same grade at No. 1 Middle School. Chen Yuan was also there with Chen Wenwei. She looked around and then asked Chen Wenwei, "Have you seen Xiaxia?"
"No," Chen Wenwei looked up and glanced around before answering.
"She texted me saying she was leaving twenty minutes ago. Why hasn't she arrived yet?" Chen Yuan looked down at her chat interface with Su Xia; it hadn't been updated.
"Yuanyuan, you're here too!" a female voice rang out, and she happily patted Chen Yuan on the shoulder.
Chen Yuan turned her head and looked at the group chat, exclaiming with delight, "Lingling, I didn't see you in the group chat!"
"I was just told there was a party today, so I came at the last minute. Where do you work now?" Ye Lingling happily took Chen Yuan's hand. She met Chen Yuan through Su Xia, and the two of them were in the same class in high school.
"I'm at XX Group now, what about you?"
"I became a teacher. I'm a physics teacher at No. 1 Middle School now."
"Wow, I remember you didn't want to be a teacher before?"
"It's all thanks to my parents. They thought that becoming a teacher would allow me to stay close to them, so they insisted that I take the teacher qualification exam when I was in college. Although I'm currently working at the No. 1 Middle School, I haven't been officially hired yet."
"So what do you think about being a teacher?"
"It's good, I only teach a few classes a week, and I only teach two classes, so the workload isn't heavy. But in my spare time, I have to attend meetings, write lesson plans, and prepare for assessments. It's so annoying. They say that being a teacher is easy, that you get weekends off, and that you have winter and summer vacations, but that's really not the case."
"Haha, since we're both in the provincial capital now, we can get together sometime."
"Oh, so this is your boyfriend?" Ye Lingling pointed to Chen Wenwei, who had been standing to the side.
"Yes, this is my boyfriend, Chen Wenwei." Chen Yuan introduced her boyfriend to Ye Lingling generously.
"Is he from our school? I've never seen him before." Ye Lingling looked at Chen Wenwei with a puzzled expression.
“No, he’s here as a family member today.”
"Oh, I heard that Xia Tian from Class 8 is coming too, is that true? She's a big star now, will she come to party with us?"
"She's here. Su Xia went to pick her up."
"Speaking of Su Xia, how has she been lately? Has she found work?"
"She's done ashore, and she's happily waiting for school to start."
"Wow, as expected. I've known her since junior high and I always thought she was a great student. She even got into the top high school through a competition, and now that she's successfully passed the postgraduate entrance exam, I really think she deserves it."
"Yeah, you have no idea how badly my parents talked to me. Being in the comparison group is really tough."
"Hahaha, luckily I'm the youngest in my family, so I don't have to compare myself to anyone else."
The two found a place to sit down and continued chatting. After a while, there was a commotion at the door. Ye Lingling looked up and said to Chen Yuan, "Xiaxia is here, and she brought Xiatian with her."
"Oh, then let her know we're over here." Chen Yuan quickly stood up and looked towards the door.
"Su Xia! Over here!" Ye Lingling called out and waved to her.
Su Xia was caught between Lu Jingnian and Xia Tian and couldn't get away, but Ye Lingling called out to her, and she immediately pulled Xia Tian away, leaving Lu Jingnian alone to receive everyone's greetings.
Lu Jingnian was considered a heartthrob in high school, and his good personality made him quite popular. When everyone saw him appear with his two rumored high school girlfriends, they immediately started gossiping.
"No way, no way, Lu Jingnian, you don't mean you want both of them?"
"What nonsense are you talking about? They're friends."
"That's amazing. What about your girlfriend? Don't tell me you don't have one. We liked your posts on WeChat Moments."
"It's her, she just ran past you."
"No way, you really got together with Xia Tian!"
"What? My girlfriend is Su Xia."
Lu Jingnian was furious with these people. He quickly walked over to Su Xia, apologized to Ye Lingling and Chen Yuan, and then pulled Su Xia back into the crowd. He turned back to Su Xia and said, "Quick, tell them who your boyfriend is."
Su Xia patted Lu Jingnian's hand reassuringly, then took his hand and intertwined their fingers. She said to the onlookers, "I am Lu Jingnian's girlfriend. As for Xia Tian, she is my friend. Don't overthink it."
"Damn it, Lu Jingnian, how could you act so quickly!" a boy roared in disappointment.
"Serves you right for dragging your feet, from high school to college graduation, and now you're dead." His companion looked at him with a gloating expression.
"I don't care, Su Xia, I like you. I've liked you ever since I saw you in high school." The boy rushed up to Su Xia and blurted out his feelings without any regard for the consequences.
In that instant, Lu Jingnian had already decided where to bury him, but Su Xia simply squeezed his hand to show her composure. Then she spoke to the boy, "Excuse me, are you in our class?"
"Pfft, hahahahahahaha!" The boy's friend couldn't help but laugh, then patted the boy on the shoulder and said, "The girl you're so hung up on doesn't even remember you! You're just having a one-sided crush! I thought there was so much unrequited love between you two. Hahahahahahaha!"
"Keep your voice down, shut up!" The boy finally yelled at his friend, then looked at Su Xia with disbelief and asked, "You really don't remember me? I'm Liu Haoran from Class 2! You even helped me carry my homework, and we often bumped into each other in the teacher's office! Oh, and you gave me a bottle of Coke, you remember that, right?"
As Liu Haoran spoke, he took out the expired bottle of cola from his backpack. It was thoughtfully sealed in plastic and the date was written on it. Its pristine condition showed how much its owner valued it.
"I'm sorry, I really don't remember you. As for carrying homework, it's just that classmates help each other out. As for drinks, I don't like cola, so I've never bought any for myself, let alone given it to you." Su Xia shook her head again, her face indifferent.
"Alright, alright, why bother remembering these old stories? Besides, Su Xia has a boyfriend now, so just let it go after the confession." Wang Yuhao from Class 1 stepped in to smooth things over, then said to Su Xia, "I see Xia Tian is still waiting for you over there, you and Jing Nian should go ahead."
"Thank you."
Lu Jingnian initially thought it was a love rival, but Su Xia didn't even remember him, so there was no need to be jealous. Su Xia had just declared in front of everyone that he was her boyfriend, so he was happy now. He took her hand and walked together to Chen Yuan's side.
"My God, Su Xia, are you really with Lu Jingnian?" Ye Lingling was shocked. She and Chen Yuan were in Class 3, and she heard a lot of things from Chen Yuan.
After everyone graduated, they went to different universities. The rich university life filled their lives, and their conversations were no longer as frequent as before.
"Lingling, long time no see. Are you a teacher at No. 1 Middle School now?" Su Xia's eyes lit up with surprise. She let go of Lu Jingnian's hand and went up to hug Ye Lingling.
She met Ye Lingling during training camp, and they later went to the same high school. Although they weren't in the same class, it was fate. She was very surprised to see her here today.
"Long time no see! I saw you out having fun the other day. Has your acceptance letter arrived yet?"
"Not yet, but the results are in, it's Xiamen University."
What's your major?
"It's still my original major, Chinese Language and Literature, and I plan to pursue further studies."
“Sure, at least Xiamen University is close to home. We can buy a high-speed train ticket to come back on the weekend, and Chen Yuan and I can get together then.”
"Yes, when we were choosing a school, my parents wanted me to be closer to home. If the schools in the provincial capital weren't so bad, they would have even wanted me to stay in the provincial capital and live at home instead of at school."
"Indeed, although the provincial capital is the provincial capital, its development is far behind that of Xiamen. It is also by the sea, so we can go to the island for a visit."
"Hmm, are you still in contact with Qiaoqiao and Qiqi?"
"Yes, but not many. They went to schools in Shanghai and stayed there after graduation. It wasn't easy for those two girls. Their parents always wanted a son, but the one-child policy was strictly enforced. Now that the two-child policy is in effect, their parents still want to have another child, which made the two sisters so angry that they stopped going home."
"Having such two educated sisters isn't enough, they also want a son."
"Yes, I don't even know if our son has been born yet. They're almost fifty, and they still want to have a child. What will they do when they get old and their child is still young?"
"They're just hoping that Qiaoqiao and Qiqi will raise them in the future. I know people like that. They use the excuse of being lonely as only children to have sons to carry on the family line. It's ridiculous. Their daughter has been lonely for over twenty years, and now they're having a baby brother for her. Do they really think they can help each other?"
"Yes, if a girl gets married early, then the uncle and nephew are really the same age!"
"Not necessarily, the nephew might be older than the uncle, hahaha."
"Hahahahahaha."
The group didn't go far, sitting down at a nearby table. There were ten people at the table, including Su Xia, Lu Jingnian, Chen Yuan, Chen Wenwei, Ye Lingling, and Xia Tian, making a total of six. Some people originally wanted to sit with Xia Tian, but Xia Tian directly invited Lin Yan and Chen Mo, who had come to her rescue in the WeChat group, to sit with her. The remaining two seats were occupied by classmates from Class One.
Everyone ate and drank, toasted each other, exchanged WeChat contacts, and chatted. Lu Jingnian focused intently on serving Su Xia food; anything she liked would appear in her bowl the moment it was served. Su Xia chatted with Xia Tian for a while, then with Ye Lingling, and occasionally gossiped quietly with Chen Yuan. Looking down, she noticed her bowl was piled high with food and quickly said to Lu Jingnian, "A-Nian, that's enough, I can't eat anymore."
"You haven't eaten much, you've been too busy chatting." Lu Jingnian said as he refilled Su Xia's water glass and handed it to her, gesturing for her to drink it.
"Tsk tsk tsk, you two are here to show off your love! Can't you consider that there are still single people here? How many years have you been together? And you're still so sweet?" Lin Yan looked at Su Xia and Lu Jingnian with disdain. Although these two are a couple, they should at least be mindful of their image.
“We’ve been together for a month and ten days. You don’t understand the honeymoon phase.” Lu Jingnian’s words shut everyone up.
"Everyone, let's take a picture. Let's show those students who couldn't come what they missed."
"Okay!"
"agree!"
"Take a picture! Take a picture!"
Finally, a classmate provided a camera, and everyone cleared the space, with close friends standing together. They formed a group photo full of youthful energy, and the classmate quickly exported the pictures from the camera, uploaded them to the group chat in a compressed file, and also shared a few photos that he thought were quite nice.
"Um, can I post this on my Weibo?" Xia Tian asked cautiously.
“Sure, post it and let those netizens see that your high school wasn’t what those haters said.” Lin Yan was the first to speak up in support.
“Yes, let them see that what that high school classmate who spread rumors about you said is all false,” Chen Mo immediately added.
"Send it, we're not in a relationship. Do you need any paid commenters? We can leave comments."
The voices of her classmates warmed Xia Tian's heart. Then, with slightly reddened eyes, she edited her Weibo post and clicked send:
High school memories were rekindled at this moment; every hug, every greeting, was so precious. Thank you for this gathering, which brought us together again to relive those wonderful memories. [Images] [Images] [Images]
It quickly attracted attention online. At first, it was just fans entertaining themselves, but then other netizens joined in the comments.
Netizen 1: Is this a clarification? Didn't some high school classmates say she bullied people before?
Netizen 2: Yeah, she bullies her classmates, she's a delinquent! But seeing that she can attend the class reunion, it's probably fake.
Netizen 3: Who knows if this is a real classmate? What if the company hired someone to act in order to dispel this scandal?
Netizen 4: That's right, otherwise why would they only stand up now after being criticized for so long?
Netizen 5: Shut up, you haters! Before we clarified, you said we were guilty, but now that we've clarified, you say we're actors. Do you think we fans are dead?
Summer's fans then joined the fray, tearing apart the haters. Shortly after, an account suddenly commented: "This came from Su Su's video. Since Su Su said you're her good friend, then we'll accept you." [Link]
