Chapter 224 Reunion (Part )
Chapter 224 Reunion (Part )
Chu Huanjun curled his lips into a charming smile and said softly, "Oh, it's Lan Xin. Why are you here?"
Shi Lanxin smiled triumphantly, put her arms around Chu Huanjun's waist, and said delicately, "Brother Chu, you're drunk. I'll take you back."
Chu Huanjun replied, "Thank you, Lan Xin. I'll bring a gift to thank you when I get home."
Shi Lanxin smiled sweetly and threw a soft fist at Chu Huanjun's chest. Her voice was so sweet that it gave goose bumps to those around her. "Hey, Brother Chu, what's the relationship between us now? Do we still need such politeness?"
Tao Yao suppressed the chill and walked forward with a basin filled with cold water. She choked out her words and said in a muffled voice, "Your Highness, do you need to wash your face first to wake yourself up?"
Ping Ping also echoed: "Yes, Your Highness, being drunk is bad for your health. Sober up first."
An An had a bad temper and had long disliked Shi Lanxin. Taking advantage of Chu Huanjun's drunkenness, she couldn't hold back any longer and simply said to Shi Lanxin, "Miss Shi, when the prince is drunk, it's us servants who should be the ones to take him back. Why are you, a young lady, the one taking him back?... Although the prince is of noble status and many girls aspire to marry him, you're a little too impatient. If General Zhenbei finds out, it will be disastrous."
Shi Lanxin's face turned red in an instant. She pointed at An An and couldn't utter a single word for a long time. Perhaps because she knew she was in the wrong, but she couldn't swallow this anger, she angrily said, "You lowly slave! Who are you to dare to speak so loudly to me?"
Pingping bowed politely and said, "Miss Shi, we are servants of Prince Yi's Mansion. We should obey the prince. Miss Shi, although you are of noble status, you are still a person outside the palace after all."
Tao Yao came over carrying a washbasin and, imitating Ping Ping's behavior, bowed respectfully and said, "Miss Shi, we in Prince Yi's Mansion only obey the orders of the prince. As an outsider, it's not appropriate for you to say anything, right?"
Shi Lanxin was furious. She pulled Chu Huanjun's sleeve, pouted, and said aggrievedly, "Brother Chu, look at them..."
Chu Huanjun frowned and whispered, "Go away." Tao Yao and An Anping looked at each other and stepped aside. They watched Shi Lanxin and Chu Huanjun bid farewell for a long time and talked a lot of nonsense before leaving reluctantly.
An An gnashed her teeth and said, "Miss Shi is really restless at this time."
Pingping winked at An An and whispered, "Sister, stop talking."
Tao Yao was a little confused. She had only been away from the capital for a few months, so how come Chu Huanjun and Shi Lanxin had become so close?
After Shi Lanxin left, Chu Huanjun walked over alone, his eyes swept over An An and Ping Ping, and finally fell on Tao Yao.
Chu Huanjun stretched out his finger, pointed at Tao Yao from a distance, and said calmly, "You... look a little unfamiliar."
An An was about to explain, but Tao Yao secretly pressed her wrist and said to herself, "The prince may be drunk. I have been staying in the mansion for six years."
Because of her veil, Tao Yao only revealed her eyebrows. Chu Huanjun looked at her for a long time, then sighed and said, "It seems I'm really drunk. Everyone I see looks like her."
Tao Yao's heart moved, and she lowered her head. Chu Huanjun waved his hand and said, "Prepare a basin of hot water. I need to wash up."
He then pushed the door open and entered the bedroom. An An and Ping Ping were about to fetch some water when Tao Yao pulled them back and said, "Sister An An, Sister Ping Ping, go and rest. The prince is here with me."
An An and Ping Ping smiled at each other, nodded twice, and then went downstairs.
Tao Yao took the washbasin and fetched another one of hot water. Standing in front of Chu Huanjun's bedroom door, feeling uneasy, she whispered, "Your Highness, the hot water is here."
Chu Huanjun's voice came from the door: "Let him in."
"Yes."
Tao Yao pushed open the door, only to see Chu Huanjun slumped on the bed, still in his outer robe. She placed the washbasin on the elevated shelf beside the bed and couldn't help but glance at him, only to meet his gaze.
Chu Huanjun propped up his head with one hand, squinted his eyes and looked at her, and asked, "Why are you wearing a veil?"
Tao Yao lowered her head and continued to speak in a hushed voice, "I recently contracted rubella, and my face is covered with many red rashes. I am ashamed to see people, so I wear a veil to cover it up."
Chu Huanjun raised his eyebrows, laughed twice, and said, "You are lying."
Tao Yao was startled, and suddenly felt a warmth on her wrist. Chu Huanjun had grabbed her. The next moment, she was pushed into Chu Huanjun's arms.
Perhaps he really drank a lot of alcohol, and the smell of alcohol was very strong. Tao Yao almost got drunk just by smelling it.
Chu Huanjun's fingers gently caressed Tao Yao's face, and then gently removed the veil. The moment the veil was removed, Chu Huanjun's eyes brightened again and again.
"Am I dreaming?"
Chu Huanjun was not sure, so he put his fingers on Tao Yao's face and pinched it, causing Tao Yao to cry out in pain.
"Really you?"
Chu Huanjun smiled happily, and his eyes were reluctant to leave Tao Yao's face for a moment.
Tao Yao also laughed, holding his hand, and said, "It's really me—" She paused, pushed him aside as if complaining, and asked, "Why did you drink so much? And, when did you and Shi Lanxin become so familiar with each other?"
Chu Huanjun just smiled with his eyes curved and kept looking at her, staring at her intently, just smiling, but unable to say anything.
Tao Yao didn't know whether he was really drunk or pretending to be drunk. If he was really drunk, was he drunk to death?
"They... they insisted on making me drink... I couldn't refuse..."
Chu Huanjun rarely showed his childish side. He hugged Tao Yao's arm, curled up in her arms aggrievedly, and whispered, "I'm sorry, I stunk you... I'll go... wash it off in a moment... and it won't stink anymore..."
The flickering candlelight cast a trembling shadow on Chu Huan's delicate brow, shrouding the expression in his eyes in darkness. Tao Yao lowered her head, wanting to get a closer look at his eyes, but suddenly caught a glimpse of a faint glow in the darkness.
Are those... tears? Tao Yao couldn't be sure.
Chu Huanjun was truly drunk. He was clearly still talking, but the next second he couldn't help but close his eyes and fell into a deep sleep. Before he fell asleep, he was still mumbling something.
Tao Yao leaned over to listen, and only then did she hear clearly what he was saying: "Really, I thought I would never see you again..."
